The Sweetest Thing
The Sweetest Thing is a cute, romantic comedy chick flick. It was released in 2002 by Columbia Tristar. It features three friends and their lives basically. They are pretty much party girls and enjoy going out to bars, drinking and hooking up with cute men (sounds like a regular Friday night!!)
Now, I did like this movie but I would not call it a classic, ie a chick flick that I would need to or want to see again and again. In fact, my one criticism of the movie would be that's it's rather crude in places where it doesn't really need to be. These girls are cute enough and famous enough in real life not to have to resort to dirty jokes to get a laugh but then I guess that was how they wanted the characters portrayed, as bar hopping girls who are a little bit crazy. For example some of the crude scenes involve talking about a certain "dodgy stain" on a dress from a night out and the various sizes of men's anatomy!!
It stars Cameron Diaz as Christina Walters, Christina Applegate as Courtney Rockcliffe and Selma Blair as Jane Burns. They are actually really good friends in the movie and it's nice to see their relationship and how they all look out for each other. It does make you glad of your own female relationships. Christina Walters says she doesn't need or want a relationship but then one night at the bar she meets Peter Donahue and all that changes, she actually does want to see him again but all is not as it seems. He leaves town and then basically the girls spend the rest of the movie chasing after him.
The road trip they take to find him has some funny moments in it, especially a very funny/yucky scene involving left over food.
There are lots of other funny parts too. Cameron is a really good dancer and she shows this off in quite a few scenes. Also on the girls road trip they have a dress up session which every girl loves and is very funny to see.
This is definitely a girl's film, I don't really think men would appreciate it, well maybe only to see Cameron Diaz is cute skimpy outfits! The clothes in the movie are quite nice so that's always good to see. I didn't do too well at the box office apparently either. In the US the film only grossed $24,718,164 U.S. of the $43,000,000 production budget. The overseas box office gross was $43,978,606 leading to a barely profitable $68,696,770. As I said it was not a completely memorable chick flick for me and other people probably thought of it like this too.
The film is for 15 years of age and older as it has strong language and moderate sex/nudity. It lasts for approximately 127 minutes. Special features include Director and Cast Commentary, Storyboard comparisons and a Featurette.

Good review of the film and I'm sorry for the H, but for this to be a full DVD review, I would prefer to see a review of the extras in the same detail as your review of the film, not just a list of them.
