...This DVD covers the first series of The Sweeney, the great 1970's cops and robbers show where the Flying Squad's Inspector Jack Regan (the late John Thaw) and his Sergeant George Carter (Denis Waterman) spend their days chasing blaggers with shooters in souped up Granadas and Capris, shaking down a grass here and there and calling in on robber's dogs for leads.
Alright not everyone comes from Laaaaandon so here's a quick translation:
The Sweeney, short for the rhyming slang for Sweeney Todd (Flying Squad)
Blagger: armed robber of banks and building societies and such like - usually with broken nose and pyschopathic too.
Shooter - a gun, carried by blaggers on a job
Granada and Capri - types of Ford motor cars popular in the 1970's
Grass - dishonest person who tells tales on his / her compatriots in exchange for a lighter...

Advantages: One of the funniest comedies of modern times Disadvantages: Could have been even funnier if more Fawlty like
...This is written by the comedy genius who is John Cleese but although at times is very funny, nay, hilarious, isn't of the staggeringly high quality of humour that Fawlty Towers, or at times, Monty Python was. Still I reckon it's one of the best comedies of modern times and once the corny, Sweeney style, bank robbery is thankfully out the way, it gets funny and remains so. I think both Michael Palin and kevin Kline (who won an oscar) are the best things in it, and the scene where Cleese tries to question the stuttering Palin about the airport always makes my sides hurt with laughing. Maybe could have been even funnier if it was a bit more Fawlty Towersish....

Advantages: Johnny Depp, brilliant special effects Disadvantages: Maybe to much gore for soem people.
...I enjoyed the whole film thoroughly!!! Who would know that Johnny Depps siging would be quite that good... and the actors in general were tres impressive!!!Although all of the blood might be a bit gory for some people, I just loved it.. the opening title sequence was awesomme and really set the mood.. Plus the first kill was just (to me) HILARIOUS!!!!Even if you do not know the story of Sweeney Todd, the film explained it to me in an easy to understand way. I didnt know that sweeney todd was put in prison for loving his wife (as an example).I also didn't find all of the film predictable (of course there were little parts where i did - throwing in the furnace) I did not think that the old hag would be his wife, i jumped to the assumption (like Sweeney Todd) that she had died....
