DVD Description
Much imitated but rarely bettered, this disc features both spin off movies from the hugely popular 1970s detective series THE SWEENEY. In the first film, DI Regan (John Thaw) is asked to investigate the mysterious death of a friend's girlfriend. But as he is suspended, he can't ask his partner, DC Carter (Dennis Waterman) for any help. With no support, he must go alone to find the killer. In THE SWEENEY 2, Regan and Carter are reunited and on the trail of gang of robbers who only ever steal exactly 100,000. The trail leads them as far as Beirut and Malta but the answer may lie closer to home in the shape of a corrupt ex-policeman played by Denholm Elliot.
Advantages: i like the story Disadvantages: too much singing, should not be a musical
...I was at a friends house when we decided to watch Sweeney Todd, At first I though I was going to be really scared of the film, I thought it was going to be a pillow by the face kind of film, but I can quite honestly say it wasn't... when Sweeney Todd (Johny Depp) kills people the blood looks really fake. the film its self was OK, but you kinda knew when things were going to happen. Also the musical bit got rather annoying after a while.
Even though the film is like 2.30 hours long it felt like only a hour.
I felt rather sorry for Sweeney Todd at the end, although if you want to know why you must watch the film.
The film is basically about a love story and is build on jealousy, hate and revenge
A good old mixture of feelings for a good old film...

Advantages: Johnny Depp, brilliant special effects Disadvantages: Maybe to much gore for soem people.
...I enjoyed the whole film thoroughly!!! Who would know that Johnny Depps siging would be quite that good... and the actors in general were tres impressive!!!Although all of the blood might be a bit gory for some people, I just loved it.. the opening title sequence was awesomme and really set the mood.. Plus the first kill was just (to me) HILARIOUS!!!!Even if you do not know the story of Sweeney Todd, the film explained it to me in an easy to understand way. I didnt know that sweeney todd was put in prison for loving his wife (as an example).I also didn't find all of the film predictable (of course there were little parts where i did - throwing in the furnace) I did not think that the old hag would be his wife, i jumped to the assumption (like Sweeney Todd) that she had died....

...I must say johnny depp isn't a bad singer, this film is amazing if you love a musical.
The story revolves around London barber Benjamin Barker, whose happy life is cruelly snatched away from him by the vicious Judge Turpin. Fifteen years later Benjamin, now masquerading under the name of Sweeney Todd, arrives back in London, and is - understandably - quite angry about a lot of things. Meeting up with Mrs. Lovett , the owner of a shop selling 'the worst pies in London', Sweeney sets about rebuilding his old business, with a view to avenging all his past wrongs. And all set to music.
This is one of Depp's best performances to date. His Sweeney is a man trapped, someone who has lost everything in the world except for - you guessed it - his razors. They are his one connection with the past, the only thing that has remained constant...
