The Sweeney (Box Set)

Advantages: Johnny Depp, brilliant special effects
Disadvantages: Maybe to much gore for soem people.

...I enjoyed the whole film thoroughly!!! Who would know that Johnny Depps siging would be quite that good... and the actors in general were tres impressive!!!Although all of the blood might be a bit gory for some people, I just loved it.. the opening title sequence was awesomme and really set the mood.. Plus the first kill was just (to me) HILARIOUS!!!!Even if you do not know the story of Sweeney Todd, the film explained it to me in an easy to understand way. I didnt know that sweeney todd was put in prison for loving his wife (as an example).I also didn't find all of the film predictable (of course there were little parts where i did - throwing in the furnace) I did not think that the old hag would be his wife, i jumped to the assumption (like Sweeney Todd) that she had died.... Advantages: Great storyline, Brilliant performances

...have not experienced the Broadway musical the film has been adapted from, so I couldn't say if the songs in the film are the same as the songs in the stage production but I found most of the songs repetative (but not catchy) , annoying and pretty boring. The fact that the film is more song than script kept making me loose interest. I personally would've prefered it if Burton had taken the musical, discarded the songs all together and scripted it , I think the storyline had the potential to make a fantastic movie and this was a missed opportunity. Overall The film ticks a lot of boxes, the sets, costumes, performances, cinematography and storyline but for me the singing got too much. I maybe in the minority here as the film there seems to be a buzz around the film at the moments and it has been nominated for numerous awards and already won 8.... Read review

..."Info" This film came as a very pleasant surprise to me, from the sometime bloody action to the soft musical theme to it, I'd never seen the original film but found this one superb. The story is easy to follow and action-packed, the basic storyline is that Benjamin Barker is sentenced for a crime he didnt do and on his release sets out to london to find his wife and daughter under the new name of Sweeney Todd, His daughter is adopted by JudgeTurpin so he opens a barbers above Mrs. Lovett's pie shop where he plans to take revenge. He slices throats of many people, who's bodies are used to make Mrs. Lovett's new meat pies, Sweeney's final target would be Judge Turpin! A highly entertaining film which i recommend you to watch!
