OK! Here we go!
A fantastic, Hilarious, sureal undewater comedy adventure! Perhaps not everyones humour. I can imagine it might even be irritating for some - NOT ME! I loved this!
The insane humour that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Released - 2004

Rated - Parental Guidance due to some mild crude humour.
However. As a mum myself. I see no reason why this would not be suitable for even small children.

Film duration - 87 mins

*******Story*****

Spongebob haves a dream that he is the new manager of the 'Krusty Krab 2 resturant'. He awakes and gets ready to go to the grand opening ceremony where Mr Krabs will announce the new manager. Hillarious wash and dress scene before Spongebob heads for what he thinks is going to be his big promotion.
However. Spongebob's promotion goes to his cantakerous, boring and dull co-worker and next door neighbour - Squidward.
An upset and humiliated Spongenbob seeks comfort at his local Goofy Goobers ice-cream bar. There he meets Patrick. The pair get ice-cream drunk, making fools of themselves. It's Fantastically funny - this part I could not stop laughing!
Spongebob awakes on the floor of the Goofy Goobers bar the next morning, is told by a waiter to scrape his friend off the floor and get going. This scene is great! A hung-over Spongebob with a five O'Clock shadow, Brilliant! Spongebob is angry that his boss has ignored all this years of loyalty and hard work, instead given the managerial position to the more mature and lazy worker Squidward.
Meanwhile. The evil plankton sets up Mr Krabs. Making it look like he has stolen King Neptune's beloved crown (that hides his bald spot). The crown now in the extremely dangerous, that no-one has EVER returned from - Shell City.
Spongebob storms down to the 'Krusty Krab' to give Mr Krabs a piece of his mind.
When he gets there, he finds King Neptune has frozen Krabs and is just about to kill him for stealing his royal crown.
Spongebob makes a deal with Neptune for Krab's life. He has 6 days to go to Shell City and return with Neptune's crown.
Spongebob and Patrick set off on their mission, unknown to them with a hit man, Dennis hot on their heels. Every now and then Mindy, Neptune's daughter turns up to advise Spongebob and Patrick, only with Patrick having a crush on Mindy and offering to show her is underwear.
With being chased by a hitman and almost being eaten by huge monsters, Spongebob and Patrick get captured by the Cyclops (A real man in an 1800's metal, heavy diver's suit).
They awake in a goldfish bowl with real surroundings, sounds strange, but bear with me!
They are in Shell City - A Marine and Sundries Gift Shop. The evil Cyclops captures sea-creatures, dries them and sells them as smelly knick-nacks!
Finally under the heat lamp, it looks like curtains for poor old Spongebob and Patrick.
However, it's not over, as HERE COMES THE HOFF!
Yes, saved by David Hasslehoff in his red baywatch gear!
I loved the Hoff appearance in this with his awesome powered, super-speedy object-launching pecks! It's a real must see just for that. I almost wet myself!

Comical scenes throughout their journey will have you in stitches, with also many musical numbers that manage to save the day.
The film goes from reality to cartoon and also a mix of both at the same time.

The movie begins with pirates on a ship, eagerly awaiting for one of their crewe to row back in his boat with the "Treasure" (tickets to the spongbob movie). This part is done with real people, not cartoon. There is a strange mix of both within this film.
The pirates have their beloved 'booty' and start singing the theme tune to Spongebob Squarepants, dancing around the ship's deck all jolly - Weird but very funny!

******Characters****************

Spongebob (Tom Kenny), is extremely naive and has a like child innocents. He is also extremely enthusiastic, also very loyal to his boss Mr Krabs. He has a very positive and trusting nature. However. Spongebob causes nothing but irritation to his neighbour, Squidward.

Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke), is incredibly slow witted and stupid. Not at all bright. He is Spongebob's best friend and neighbour. He can be a slob and a comlpete oaf.

Mr Krabs (Clancy Brown), money grabbing and tight-clawed Krabs would sell anyones soul (even his own mother's) for extra cash. He is penny pinching and stingy.

Squidward (Rodger Bumpass), Boring, Dull, negative, cantakerous, bad tempered Squidward hates his mundane day to day job and dreams of a better life filled with culture. Thinks of himself as a much higher class than the dwellers surrounding him, within Bikini Bottom. Always aggrevated by his two neighbours, Spongebob and Patrick.

Plankton (Mr Lawrence), evil and power hungry. Has a lust for Krab's beloved recipe for the Krabby Patty, loved by all of Bikini Bottom's residence.

King Neptune (Jeffrey Tambor), Powerful, strict, iron-fisted. Would punish anyone without a hesitation. just for looking at his crown the wrong way.

Mindy (Scarlett Johansson), sweet, kind, caring and ever patient Mindy, always thinks well of all the creatures of the sea.

All the characters are great and so much fun to watch, especially poor old Squidward getting angry with his idiot neighbours.

***************Music*******************

The music in this film reflects the film extremely well. With bouncy tones and happy melodies. The songs are addictive to sing along along with.
All the tunes will make you smile, especially the first song - The Spongebob Theme Tune performed by a gang of burly pirates.

Alot of the songs are done by the characters with I think is really great, I think this makes the songs more appealing.

******Spongebob History********

First created in 1996 by Stephen Hillenburg (producer of Rocko's modern life/marine biologist). Even though first spongebob squarepants drawings go back to 1987.
Spongebob had been running for many years but only really became popular about 2002.
a huge majority of the viewers and fans are over 18 years of age.
This would be due to the humour I guess, which is slightly crude potty humour at times. Also some slightly adult humour that youngsters wouldn't get.
It's weird. You can sit and watch this with your kids and both be laughing for different reasons.
Some of the cast go way back with Hillenburg and have worked on previous projects together, such as Tom Kenny (Voice of Spongebob) and Mr Lawrence (Voice of Plankton).
Also Derek Drymon that also worked on a few episodes of Rocko's modern life.
There were rumours of the show being cancelled, which are untrue and this just spured more episodes to be made!

Dedicated to Jules Engel (1909? - 2003)

To sum up, this dvd is great, entertaining. I would imagine that it is great value for money, however. I wouldn't know as it was given to me as a gift :)

Great for anyone, any age.

Great music and storyline. The storyline isn't too complicated, so young chilodren can easily understand and not too simple for adults to lose interest.

Great extras on the disc.

I would give this film 4 stars out of 5 simply because the humour might not be to everyones taste.
Other than that, it is a great funny film.

Hope you enjoyed the review.
Take care, Love Ali x :)
