Advantages: Above average film fodder Disadvantages: Too clever for its own good
...are moderately fleshed out, never over developed, but never two dimensional. All in all, it is well written and quite clever. However, it is too clever for it's own good. SPOILER: The entire layout of the cube is based on an "obvious" mathematical equation, that only a mathematical genius would be able to guess, and it is from this point on that the film becomes a bit overly confusing.END OF SPOILER.
The DVD also has a directors commentary, photo's and the trailer for the film.
Taken for what it is, Cube is entertaining, gory (in bits), intelligent and sharp. Something that you don't often see in (low budget) Science Fiction today....

Advantages: Interesting, controversial subject matter Disadvantages: Though the acting is excellent, the movie is not quite convincing
...making. Another reviewer accurately noted that it felt reminiscent of something Stanley Kubrick might do and being favourably compared to the great director is no bad thing, especially for a commercials director.
SPOILER
The ending is a intriguing one. Basically, the kid emerges okay, and Kidman emerges so emotionally fragile that you wonder if she will ever recover. It's certainly not an easy ending and that seems entirely appropriate.
END SPOILER
>>> DVDDVD picture quality is good, sound quality is very nice indeed. There are no extras aside from a trailer....

Advantages: Well written screenplay, good acting, classic film Disadvantages: Slightly too long, and slow in places
...Set in 11th - 12th century Spain, this film is unique to its genre and has been quoted as an "epic masterpeice". Charlton Heston at his very best, he is as intense in this film as in the much accredited "Ben Hur".
The film is very powerful, and the history is portrayed very accurately and the colour of the film is superb. Sophia Loren is good, but is definetly overshadowed by Charlton Hestons performance. This film absorbs you into this time period, and the scenery captures this by its atmospheric prescence with a good mixture of action, adventure and romance.
Overall this is a "feel good" movie, with a classic ending (No spoilers here!) Definetly one to watch again and again.
There are hardly any extras on the DVD, at least the one I have anyway, I think that some extra scenes would be nice, although the film is long enough...

DVD Description
Two Yukon adventurers fight it out over a gold claim and a beautiful saloon girl in this remake of the classic Rex Beach novel about life in an Alaskan mining town during the gold rush of early 1900. John Wayne plays miner Roy Glennister, co-owner of a gold mine financed by saloon owner Cherry Malotte (a sultry, double entendre-spouting Marlene Dietrich). When crooked gold commissioner Alexander McNamara (Randolph Scott) conspires to steal Glennister's claim along with the affections of Cherry it's a no-holds-barred showdown between the two rivals in one of the best saloon brawls in cinema history.

Advantages: it's a good film Disadvantages: keanu reeves stars in it
...This is a must for anybody. The Matrix works both as an action movie, but also as a thinking man's movie. This is one of the best movies to combine the two together. The acting is incredible all around. Carrie Ann-Moss, Laurence Fishbourne, and Joe Pantaliano are incredible. Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith is perfect as the emotionless Government Agent trying to find Neo. This was also one of the most underrated roles of 1999 and Hugo Weaving deserved some award for his work. The only acting dissapointment is Keanu Reeves. If only he could have worked at lowering his accent, he would have been better.
The Wachowski Brothers wrote an incredible script with likeable characters, especially Mouse, Trinity, Tank, and Switch. SPOILER The death's of Swithc and Mouse are relatively sad due to the fact of likeable characters. END SPOILER. So, if you...

Advantages: Lots of extra stuff Disadvantages: May not watch many times
...The Sixth Sense has to be one of the finest DVDs available at this time. It is packed fully of extra material, from deleted scenes to discussions about the characters, the actors, the music and other subtle elements of the film. All of these are well presented and commented upon by its director M. Night Shyamalan. The film itself is difficult to review, and is best left for you to enjoy without a spoiler from me. I can only describe it as a rollercoaster ride of high emotion and spine-chilling fears. The performances are first class, particularly the child actor, Haley Joel Osment, who plays the little boy Cole. I cannot recommend a film, or indeed a DVD higher....
