Right now I have finished watching this film again on TV. How many times have I seen it in my life? Uff... considering that it's on TV every year in Christmas (and I am over thirty) and that I have been having it in video for years... impossible to count. And it is that it does not tire to me.
I imagine that most of you know the film, at least the name but just in case you don't know it I am going it to introduce it to you.

History turns around the life of Maria, a beginner nun who aspires to become a nun and lives in an abbey. But she does not adapt to the religious life and she is sent to the house of the family Von Trapp where the head of household has been left widower and in charge of his seven children to whom he directs and orders with a strict and military regime. The beginner must face the rejection of the children and to the opposition of the father to carry out her work as she wants but little by little manages to gain the confidence and the affection of the children and with her enters the happiness and the music into the house. Without wanting it the ingenuous girl falls in love with her "boss" and for that reason she flees again from those new feelings hiding in the convent. A Future "step mother", an adolescent love, the third Reich and the Nazis, many precious songs and a landscape of Austria make that film tender, and entertainment... with a pretty end although predictable but not for that reason is less pretty.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ REAL HISTORY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The history of the film is based on the real history of the family Von Trapp and in some things is very adorned but in others is very truly.
For example in the real life Maria went to the house to take care of single of one of the daughters of the captain. His wife had died of scarlet fever and the girl had been infected of this disease and although she had surpassed, it had left her very weak and she couldn't attend the school.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ THE MUSICA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The film is full of songs that have been hits as much in its time as throughout years. Some of these are: "Climb every mountain", "The sound of music", "Maria", "Sixteen, going on seventeen", "My favourite things", "Edelweiss" or "Do Re Mi" whose letter most of us used to learn the musical notes. Do you remember??
The true Maria (whose name as a single person was Maria Augusta Kutchera) appears in the film. She went to visit the running in 1964 to know the actors and they gave her a small paper in the film. It appears underneath an arc of Salzburgo, between shades, in the scene in which Maria (Julie Andrews) travels for the first time from the Abby to the house of the Von Trapp.
It is known by many one the failures of the film. When Maria goes to the market with the children appears a poster in a box of oranges that puts: "Product of Israel". One assumes that in 1930 when the film is developed this country doesn't exist.
It is said in a lot of webs that the film has been watch by 1,000 million people in the world.
Julie Andrews puts its voice in the songs of the film whereas Christopher Plummer was doubled.
It seems that not only to me the film is wonderful because it obtained 10 nominations to the Oscars in 1965 obtaining those of better film (Robert Wise), better director (Robert Wise), better assembly (William H. Reynolds), better sound track (Irwin Kostal) and better sound (James P. Corcoran and Fred Haynes). The other nominations, and those that not won, were better actress Julie Andrews, better secondary actress Peggy Wood, better scenery in colour, better colour photograph Ted McCord and better clothes in colour.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MY PERSONAL OPINION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe that with all which I have already told you about the film exceeds to say that I love this film. It does not have action, it does not have intrigues, it I can either be denominated as romantic... nevertheless is precious. It is a simple, tender and precious history. It does not have waste. And what to say about the music. I also like it very much. Maybe this comes in the genes jajjaja because my mother has the vinyl of the sound track of this film. I recommend it to everybody, old, young and child. To parents and children. This film is one of those that can be seen in family with important values: some good education, value from the friendship and the treason, the affection between brothers, the importance of the family.
You must watch it at least once: -)
A greeting to all from Pucela (Spain) and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Advantages: Oscar winning movie, great singing, scenery, story Disadvantages: None
The Sound of Music is probably my favourite film of all time and if like me, you love to watch it over and over again then this DVD is definitely for you.
It is a two disc 40th anniversary collector's edition of the Rogers and Hammerstein classic. The movie won 5 academy awards in all, including best picture.
If you are not familiar with the movie here is a quick overview:
Maria, or Frauline Marie as she is called in the film is a young women ... ...run up and play in the hills above the convent and look down at the nuns and long to be one of them. When her behaviour doesn't go down well at the abbey she is sent to be a governess to 7 children! Their father, Captain von Trapp is probably still getting over the death of his wife and is away from home alot so does not spend as much time with the children as he should. The story then develops into a beautiful love story between him and Maria with ...

BUT after a song of encouragement from the mother superior maria 'climbs every mountain' and returns to the Von Trapp family where the Baroness gracefully bows out and a new wedding is announced.
After a wonderful ceremony the two jet off on their honeymoon and return to an even more torn apart Austria. The nazis are an ever present threat and more so when the captain refuses to fight for them.
The family make for escape from their home but are spotted and plot to fool the nazis whilst escaping a music competition.
A chase insues and my favourite scene appears when the nuns reveal thery have stolen the naziz car parts.

As my film education from my hubby is continuing last night I had the pleasure of watching for the first time ever The Sound of Music.
The film is about a Nun called Maria who is always getting into trouble at the convent so she is given a job to go and do to see if she really does want to become a Nun or go out into the real world. Maria is given to job of becoming a Nanny to the Von Trapp family.
Maria arrives at the Von Trapp house to find 7 children and their father who runs the house like he is Captain on one of his ships and the children all answer to a whistle call and have their days structured and they run like clockwork. Since the death of the Captain?s wife there has been no music or fun in the house but Maria is determined to change this.
The children finally accept Maria and start to warm to her. The Captain is ...

This should be on the top of all musical classics!
The Sound of Music (SoM) released in 1965 remains to this day an unrivaled film masterpiece by Robert Wise infused by the original music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Needless to say, it is perfect for the whole family and for all people, young and old (unless of course, if you don't like a melody-driven music, catchy lyrics, and beautiful story, which is seldom the case for "normal" humans).
The DVD preserved the music that inspired many generations the world over. From "Do Re Mi" to "My Favorite Things" to "Edelweiss" and many others. These are classics on their own. Interlaying these wonderful songs to the engaging storyline (that centered on the impending take-over of Austria by Hitler's Nazi) provided a unique viewing experience.
Wise's direction was simply marvelous along ...

DVD Description
Shot in Salzburg against the majestic Bavarian Alps, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is considered one of the greatest screen musicals ever made. Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Robert Wise), the film, based on a real family and their true events, tells the story of a young postulate, Maria (Julie Andrews), who, after proving too high-spirited for the Mother Abess and other nuns, is sent off to work as a governess to seven unruly children. The Von Trapp family is run, in military style, by the seemingly cold-hearted Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), a lonely widowed naval officer. Seeing how badly he and his children need companionship, he proposes to the Baroness Schraeder (Eleanor Parker), a calculating, mutual friend of beloved family friend Max Detweiler (Richard Haydn). It is the baroness who soon realises that it's Maria - with her warmth and love for the children - the captain really loves. It is nearly bliss for the newly formed family who loves to sing together - except for the cloud looming over their beloved Austrian horizon: Hitler is ascending to power, forcing Von Trapp to decide whether to join the Nazi party - which he loathes - or force his family to leave their home forever. One of the most memorable scores ever written (by Rodgers and Hammerstein) and breathtaking performances by Andrews, Plummer, and the seven children mark this classic as one of the world's most favourite films.
