The plot -------------
In Salzburg, Austria, Maria is studying to become a nun but is not sure if convent life is right for her. She is sent from her abbey to be the governess to seven children of a widower naval commander, Captain von Trapp. Maria and the Captain immediately disagree on the way the children are raised; the Captain has been treating them as if they are in the military, and have very strict rules, while Maria wants them to enjoy life as children while they can. The children range in age from sixteen to five: Liesl (16), Friedrich (14), Louisa (13), Kurt (11), Brigitta (10), Marta (7), and Gretl (5).
The children are mischievous and initially hostile to Maria, as they do not like the idea of having a governess, but they eventually come to love her when she introduces them to the pleasures of music and singing. Once the Captain discovers this, he feels very remorseful for his rigidity. He apologizes to Maria for being so strict with the children, asks her to stay for a while, and starts to enjoy his life more himself. One of the Captain's friends, Max tries to convince the Captain to let the children perform in his concert. Maria finds herself falling in love with the captain, who is engaged to Elsa, a very wealthy baroness. The Baroness becomes jealous of Maria and convinces her to leave during a grand party at the house.
Although the Captain announces his intention to marry the Baroness Elsa, she does not have a good way with the children. . She tries to make them happy, but it is clear she is not very family minded, or maternal towards the children, and they do miss Maria terribly. After a talk with the Mother Abbess, Maria decides to return to the Trapp family. The story goes on, but what will be the outcome of the film, will the captain fall in love with Maria, or will he marry the Baroness. The Nazis start to take over Austria, so what will become of the Von Trapp family, well watch the film and find out.

My opinion ------------------
Ok time to be honest loll. Now yes I did love this film when I first watched it, even though to me it was an old film. My mother had watched it when it first came out in the cinemas, and had watched it several times since. She absolutely loved it, and introduced me to it. So I sat and watched it the first time, and I did really enjoy everything about the film, the acting was superb. The soundtrack was fantastic and very catching song that was well known in a lot of households. I loved the do-re-me song. Doe a deer a female deer and so on. Now for my I will be honest part loll.
When I watched this when I was younger, my mother would continually watch it any chance she had, so when it got to about 7pm, I used to ask her if we could watch it, I only did this as the film is 3 hours long, so it meant I got to stay up late. She fell for this every time I asked her. I did like the film and did enjoy watching it, but it probably is something I would normally only watch once, but I have watched it several time. I am sure if you like musicals then you would really enjoy this. Even though it's an old film it is still well known to this day and well worth watching.
