The Simpsons - Classics - Go to Hollywood is a collection of four episodes including some new, and some classic ones. The episodes included are "When You Dish Upon a Star", "Fear of Flying", "Krusty Gets Kancelled" and "Flaming Moes".
"When You Dish Upon a Star" has Homer, through some bizarre accident, becoming the personal assistant to Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, who are staying in a secluded home in Springfield. After he becomes fired for telling his friends about who he's working for, he launches "the museum of Hollywood jerks" with various undergarments etc. With all celebrities in The Simpsons, they are never afraid of poking fun at each other, and both have some good lines together. Ron Howard makes another appearance and is again hilarious, especially when he steals Homer's film idea and the "Happy Days" theme plays.
"Fear of Flying" introduces us to Marge's fear of flying as The Simpsons try to go on vacation. On Lisa's advice she visits a psychiatrist to try and get to the bottom of why she feels this way. A good episode predominantly featuring neither Bart or Homer, it also shows the family coming through hardships stronger on the other side. Plus, I love the "North by Northwest" reference.
In "Krusty Gets Kancelled" Krusty gets, well, canceled after his show gets trounced in the ratings by Gabbo, a ventriloquist's dummy. Bart and Lisa try to sabotage Gabbo and recruit some huge names in order to put Krusty back on top! Probably one of the best celebrity-centric episodes they've ever done, it's wonderfully written and has both touching moments and hilarious moments (Krusty singing send in the clowns fills both those criteria) and includes Bette Middler, Johnny Carson and Hugh Hefner who shows Bart around the playboy mansion, just thinking about it makes me want to watch it again!
"Flaming Moes" is probably one of the best known episodes and features a classic Bart moment, phoning Moe the bartender asking for Hugh Jass and someone actually is there with that name! In this episode Homer invents a drink called the "Flaming Homer" and Moe promptly steals it, making tons of money and sending Homer insane in the process. Guest starring Aerosmith and a great Flaming Moe's song which itself is a spoof of the "Cheers" intro, this is one of the best Simpsons episodes ever. Great writing plays up the tension between Moe and Homer and his subsequent spiral into madness, capped off with him thinking everyone is saying 'Moe' and transforming into Moe, even the flowers!
No extras which is a shame, but doesn't detract from the genius of these episodes, five stars for them alone.
