I bought this boxset for £15.99, which is a bargain considering the prices some stroes get away with.

The DVDs comprise of 13 episodes. They are as follows;

"Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire"
Original Airdate: 17/12/89

Bart Simpson gets a tattoo, using its "mother" quality as an excuse, Marge has no option but to gt it removed but in doing so spends all the Christmas money. In order to raise more cash Homer becomes a Santa at a local department store, but he loses all the money he earned on a "hot tip" from Barney at the dog races. Bart and Homer save Christmas by returning to the Simpson house-hold with a new member of the family; Santa's little helper.

"Bart the Genius"
Original Airdate: 14/1/90

Bart is mistaken for a genius after cheating at an intelligence test in school. Marge and Homer send Bart to a school for the gifted, a school that illuminates his inequalities. In order to get back into Springfield Elementary, Bart claims he'll do a study on his class mates but he ends up admitting to forgery.

"Homer's Odyssey"
Original Airdate: 21/1/90

Homer gets the boot from the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant after causing a meltdown. He realises that safety matters and so becomes Public Safety Advocate, which mainly involved installing speed bumps. After a fight with Mr. Burns, Homer is rehired at the lant and given a raise.

"There's No Disgrace Like Home"
Original Airdate: 21/1/90

Homer wonders if his family is alittle too dysfunctional after going through an embarrassing incident at a company gathering. The Simpson family all attend family therapy sessions with Dr. Marvin Monroe, an unorthodox psychotherapist. Dr. Monroe uses shock therapy to cure their problems; but it just heightens them.

"Bart the General"
Original Airdate: 04/2/90

Nelson, the school bully, takes it too far. Bart and the other kids from Springfield Elementary decide to get their own back. Grampa Simpson and Herman (the military fanatic) help the kids in their plan to attack Nelson and his buddies. Nelson eventually signs a cease fire treaty after being pelted with water balloons.

"Moaning Lisa"
Original Airdate: 11/2/90

Lisa Simpson is sent home from school feeling rather low. She bumps into Bleeding Gums Murphy one night and he shows her how she can vent her frustration and sorrow through the media of jazz. Lisa's spirits are lifted when Bleeding Gums sings a song, written for him by Lisa, at his club.

"The Call of the Simpsons"
Original Airdate: 18/2/90

Homer takes the family camping in a new RV he recently purchased, however, when they arrive at their destination he accidently drives it over a cliff. The entire family are stranded in the woods, with no means of leaving, so they now have to focus on survival. Homer is caught in a net after being mistaken for Big Foot, Maggie is taken in by a pack of bears, and Bart, Lisa and Marge make their way to civilisation.

"The Telltale Head"
Original Airdate: 25/2/90

Jimbo Jones and the rest of the bullies meet Bart outside of the cinema, and after a day of mischeif, Bart seeks approval from his peers and decides to steal the head of Jebediah Springfield (the town founder, who's statue bares residence in the town square). An angry mob is formed against Bart, and only Homer stands by his side; encouraging him to return the head back to the statue.

"Life on the Fast Lane"
Original Airdate: 18/3/90

Its Marge's birthday, and as always Homer bought her something he knew she wouldn't use and thus belong to him; he gave her a bowling ball with the name "HOMER" written across it. Angry at her husband she decides to take up bowling, just to spite him, and eventually meets a French bowling instructor named Jacques. Marge and Jacques grow close, spending every day together down at the bowling alley. Homer tries to win Marge back and succeeds after reminding her of her duty to the family.

"Homer's Night Out"
Original Airdate: 25/3/90

Bart purchases a toy spy camera from one of his magazines. Whilst at a resteraunt with his two sisters and his mother he accidentally stumples upon his father dancing with a belly dancer in the other suite; he captures his drunken father on his camera, gets the photo developed, photocopied and distributed across the whole town. Homer's reputation is completely trashed, as almost is his marriage. Homer is forced to teach Bart that women aren't sex objects and so takes him to talk with the belly-dancer in question.

"The Crepes of Wrath"
Original Airdate: 15/4/90

Springfield Elementary cease their chance to get rid of Bart Simpson for a couple of months by sending him on a foreign exchange program. Bart is forced to live with two very unpleasant French winemakers.
An Albanian student, named Adil, takes Bart's place in the Simpson house-hold. What the Simpson family don't know is that Adil is a spy sent to obtain the Nuclear Power Plant's secrets.
Bart manages to escape the slave-drivers' company just enough so as he could inform a local police officer of their evil ways. He returns to America a national hero.

"Krusty Gets Busted"
Original Airdate: 29/4/90

Homer Simpson is eyewitness to a robbery at his local Kwik-E-Mart, the culpritt being Krusty the clown. Bart and Lisa are sure that Krusty didn't have motive to do such a thing, and so they investigate the whole incident. They discover that Sideshow Bob, Krusty's sidekick, is the real criminal; this clears Krusty of all charges and sends Sideshow Bob away to the slammer.

"Some Enchanted Evening"
Original Airdate: 13/5/90

Homer and Marge leave the kids at home, with the only baby sitter they could pursuade; Ms. Botz, inorder to go out for a romantic diner together. Bart is convinced that their babysitter is actually the Baby sitter Bandit he saw on televison. Bart's inclination is right and Ms. Botz plans on robbing the Simpson's House, she ties Lisa and Bart up with rope but is unable to find the baby; but what can a baby do?...

This was a great introduction into the Simpson world, entertaining Millions across the globe. I am no exception and so I would have to say the enjoyment from these DVDs was outstanding.

The stories aren't really that original in that they seem to be adapted from other sources, yet they are presented in an original fashion. I would rate the stories as good.

The Simpson cast is one of the best, not just for a cartoon series, but in any context.

The effects used in this cartoon series is limited due to its release date and because; primarily, its a cartoon. My rating on the special effects is good (considering the time it was made).

The soundtrack is excellent, it has built quite a reputation up for itself and is known all over the world.

I definetly recommend these DVDs to potential buyers, because its very enjoyable and generates alot of laughter.

Thankyou for reading my review and I hoped you enjoyed it.

Great, detailed review. This is a box set I own myself, and it's such a classic series. Just a shame it's been played to death on UK TV now, but I guess that's what happens to great programmes. Steve
