The Simpsons launched back in 1991. Ten years later the the DVD was released.
The Simpsons The Complete First Season features the very first 13 episodes from Springfield. In the following review I hope to inform you as much as I can on why you should or shouldn't buy this DVD. I hope you enjoy it.
First let's take a look at the tweleve episodes in more detail. They are in the following order.
1. Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire
This is where it all began back in 1989. The Simpsons have to pay out a large amount of money to have Bart's "I love Mother" tatto removed. Marge spends the families christmas money hoping Homers christmas bonus will cover the shopping. But unknown to Marge power plant owner Mr Burns has decide not to given a christmas bonus this year. Affraid of telling his wife the truth Homer decides to become a santa at the local mall. Has Homer saved christmas?
I thought for a first episode this is very good. The animation might not be the best thats ever been produced but its watchable. Santa's Little Helper joins the happy and others are introduced for the first time. Also notice how Homer's voice is different in Season One.
Total Running Time: 23.09
2. Bart The Genius
Bart decides to cheat on his I.Q test. and swap it with clever boy Martin Prince. But because of his high I.Q Bart is moved to a special school. He if free to do what he likes when he likes. Bart is enjoying himself into the smarter kids take advantage of Barts lack of knowledge. While Marge takes the whole family to the opera. Homer really enjoys it, not.
Another good Simpson episode. I enjoy Bart's little opera song. A few good jokes with a average story.
Total Running Time: 23.05
3. Homer's Odyssey
Bart visits Homer at work
only to end up getting his dad fired. Homer feels he's hit rock bottom and decides to kill himself. His family run to save him and nearly get killed crossing the street. Homer decides to fight to have a stop sign put on the corner. So begins Homers fight for health and safety.
Nice to see Homer away from the TV screen and doing something other then scratching his bottom. A well planned episode with a good story. Also Mr Burns and Smithers are introduced.
Total Running Time: 23.07
4. There's No Disgrace Like Home
It's official The Simpsons are the worst family in Springfield. After visiting the company picnic Homer feels his family needs to improve. Dr Marvin Monroe is on hand to shock the family into shape.
Nice to see a new character added to the show. Itchy and Scratchy are also shown for the first time. I enjoyed this episode very much. I like all the jellys in Mr Burns house. There must have been at least 60! Lol!
Total Running Time: 22.23
5. Bart The General
Bart is beaten up by Nelson the bully after he sticks up for his sister Lisa. Bart decides to get help from Abe Simpson and so begins a war between the school and Nelson. Armed with hundreds of Happy Birthday water balloons Bart sounds the attck. How will it end.
I liked this episode very much. Nice to see that the bully doesn't always win... A few good jokes and an old man in a tree throwing water bombs and Homer....
Total Running Time: 22.38
6. Moaning Lisa
Lisa is upset with her life. She feels no one helps her and decides to show her sadness. She turns to a man named Bleeding Gums Murphy.
Nothing really special about this episode. Seems to drag on a few times with a lack of jokes. Not something you want to show children. An unhappy child for twenty minutes.
Total Running Tme : 23.05
7. Call Of The Simpsons
Nextdoor neighbour Ned Flanders turns up with an expensive RV. So Homer decides to get his own back by spending his hard earned cash on his own RV. Homer and the family visit Bob's RV roundup in search of a good motor. But Homers poor credit leaves the family with one option. They leave with a small, rusty RV. Waving goodbye to Flanders the family set off for a fun camping trip.
A funny episode. Homer as bigfoot? It could happen you know. He's about the right size and has the brains of an ape.
Total Running Time: 23.05
8. The Telltale Head
Bart tries to be cool by stealing the head of the towns statue. But Bart's new friends think it's uncool and go in search of the one who stole it. Bart and Homer end up being chased down by the towns people giving but around 22 minutes 42 seconds to explain his actions.
Very good episode for children to see. The first season was a lot less adult then the others and taught children right and wrong.
Total Running Time: 22.42
9. Life On The Fast Lane
It's Marge's birthday so Homer goes in search of a gift. The only problem is he got it for himself. Marge is shocked to be given a bowling ball. So Marge takes the ball and goes to play. While at the alley Marge meets a man and has to decide between him and Homer.
Not really one for the kids unless you want to explain to them why daddy run off with his 20 yearold lover.
Total Running Time: 23.06
10. Homer's Night Out
Homer goes to a stag party only to end up dancing with the stripper. Bart decides to take a photo and ends up sending it all around town. Marge discovers the photo and kicks Homer out of the house.
Again not really one for the kids. The series seems to have gotten more adult but this stage. Again a good episode.
Total Running Time: 23.03
11. The Crepes Of Wrath
Bart is sent to France in a student exchange program. But the men he's staying with treat him like dirt and make him drink wine with anti-freeze in. Bart goes in search of a policeman but is unable to speak french. While back in Springfield Adil arrives to stay with The Simpsons. He seems to like the nuclear power plant a lot...
This is most likely the best episode of the season. Some very good jokes mashed together with a good story.
Total Running Time: 23.10
12. Krusty Gets Busted
Krusty the crown decides to rob the local shop. Krusty is taken away and replaced with Sideshow Bob, the voice of Kelsey Grammer aka TV's Fraiser. Bart still thinks Krusty had nothing to do with the robbery and trys to prove it!
Nice to see a popular guest star for the first time. This is kind of like the who shot Mr Burns episode but you kind of already know who did it...
Total Running Time: 23.07
13. Some Enchanted Evening
A fantastic episode to a fantastic season. With Homer and Marge staying the night at a motel Bart and Lisa are taken care of by a babysitter. But she couldn't be Americas most wanted could she? The Babysister Bandit?
Another great episode and a really good way to end the first season of The Simpsons.
Total Running Time: 22.23

Advantages: Great if you like the Simpsons (obviously), I got it for very cheap Disadvantages: It's not cheap everywhere, has a different feel to later series.
