The Simpsons first season DVD is one that any Simpsons fan should own. It has all the
great episodes of the first
season, which started off the Simpsons phenomenon. It's not only a chance to have
thirteen episodes to hand, so you can
watch them whenever you want, but it is bundled with loads of special features. So if
you're a Simpson's fan, why don't
you own this already!

DVD Features

Thirteen episodes, on 3 three disks. You will be able to read about the episodes in
this review, covering the story
lines and acting as a memory refresher to those who are thinking about purchasing
this collector's item.

Each of the three disks offers commentaries on each episode, by the creators of the
Simpsons. This is interesting to see
how each episode was done as it was and how things have improved as time has gone on.
The first, second and third disk
all include some original scripts, good for the viewers that are a fanatic of the
Simpsons who want to know how episodes
are laid out.

The third disk is the one that includes most of the special features and you will
find that there are loads to get
through. Choose from out takes, a BBC special on America's first family and ABC news
report on the Bart Simpson T-shirt
controversy. The very first Simpsons episode, "Good Night Simpsons", that was
show during the time when the Simpsons
appeared as short clips on the Tracey Ullman Show. The animation has come a long way
since then, this is so worth
watching, you'll be amazed at how these crappy cartoons went on the become the
greatest cartoon show of all time! Don't
forget to watch the unaired episode and foreign language clips (foreign language
clips? Just a glimpse into how big the
Simpsons have become)

There are also still galleries that include early sketches of the Simpsons, current
pictures of the Simpsons and
magazine covers. All the features are accessed through the main menu, of which is
designed to keep within the theme of
the Simpsons and is very easy to navigate.

Episodes

There are a total of 13 episodes that originally aired in the USA starting on the
17th December 1989 and ending on the
13th May 1990. Here is an overview of the episodes that are included

[7G08] - Simpson's Roasting on an Open Fire
[7G02] - Bart The Genius
[7G03] - Homer's Odyssey
[7G04] - There's No Disgrace Like Home
[7G05] - Bart The General
[7G06] - Moaning Lisa
[7G09] - Call Of The Simpsons
[7G07] - The Tell Tale Head
[7G11] - Jacques To Be Wild a.k.a. Life In The Fast Lane
[7G10] - Homer Night Out
[7G13] - The Crepes of Wrath
[7G12] - Krusty Gets Busted
[7G01] - Some Enchanted Evening

Here are my personal episode descriptions

7G08 - Simpson's Roasting on an Open Fire, Homer doesn't receive his Christmas bonus

Marge has to dig into her savings to have Bart's tattoo removed. Homer gets a job as
Santa Claus at a department store.

unable to provide for his family and feels like ending it all. But he sets out on a
campaign for safety.

7G04 - There's No Disgrace Like Home, The Simpson's go to Mr. Burns annual workers'
and make a mockery of themselves, so
Homer enrols his family into Dr Marvin Monroe's Clinic.

7G05 - Bart The General Bart is getting bullied so he gets together with Grandpa so
he get back at Nelson Muntz. Herman,
the owner of the Springfield Military Store, helps him along the way.

7G06 - Moaning Lisa, Lisa is feeling down and depressed and her only salvation is in
her saxophone, and comes to meet
Bleeding' Gums Murphy, a jazz musician. Homer and Bart battle it out on Super
Slugfest and Homer realises that Bart is
smarter than him.

7G09 - Call of the Simpsons, The Simpsons purchase a RV to keep up with the Flanders.
The Simpsons set off into the
wild, where only a great adventure can happen. Homer is mistaken for Big Foot!

7G07 - The Tell Tale Head, The episode starts with Bart and Homer sneaking through
the streets of Springfield being
chased by an angry mob of Springfieldians. Bart has been causing trouble again by
cutting of the head of Jebadiah
Springfield's statue in a bid to become popular.

7G11 - Jacques To Be Wild a.k.a. Life In The Fast Lane, Homer buys Marge a bowling
ball for her birthday. Marge is upset
but decides to give bowling a try and meets another man...

7G10 - Homer Night Out, Bart buys a mail order spy camera. Bart takes a picture of
Homer mid belly dance with exotic
Princess Kashmir. Homer has to teach Bart that women are not sex objects and then she
will forgive him.

7G13 - The Crepes of Wrath, Bart is enrolled in a foreign exchange programme by
Principal Skinner for his bad behaviour.
Bart is sent to France and is a slave to two French men in their plot to make cheap
wine.

7G12 - Krusty Gets Busted, Krusty is arrested for arm robbery. Bart feels like Krusty
has been framed and sets out on an
investigation to find Krusty innocent.

7G01 - Some Enchanted Evening, Marge wants a night out after hearing that it could
help her relationship with Homer.
They need a baby-sitter for the kids, but no one wants to do it until they come
across baby-sitter Miss Lucille Botz.

Conclusion

This is a great box set DVD, if it weren't brought for me as a gift, I would have
brought it. I have started collecting
all the Simpsons box sets and they are all as good as the first. I own a Simpson's
web site and when the news about the
DVD being released was circulating, this was big news and the main subject of
conversation was what was going to be
included as special features. This DVD has some very interesting features but would
have been better if there included
some more episodes from the Tracey Ullman show, this were really fun.

The first one is well designed, with your usual folder DVD box that holds the DVD's.
The colour of the box changes as
the newer seasons are released. The episodes included are ones that I have seen loads
of time on television and other
Simpsons fans have too, but the special features are worth witnessing.

The price for this set is getting lower and lowers all the time, and it pays to shop
around. This makes an enjoyable
buy!

The Simpsons launched back in 1991. Ten years later the the DVD was released. The Simpsons The Complete First Season features the very first 13 episodes from Springfield. The start of a classic
Review of The Simpsons - Series 1 - Complete (DVD) by charlsayslol

Advantages: Great if you like the Simpsons (obviously), I got it for very cheap
Disadvantages: It's not cheap everywhere, has a different feel to later series.

This is, fairly obviously, the DVD of the first TV series of the very popular show, 'The Simpsons'. For those of you who haven't heard of it before, the Simpsons is a cartoon series that has been running since the early 90s, which focuses on one particular family, the Simpsons. It's a great cartoon for children, but also has a lot of jokes in it that only adults will get, making it accessible for all ages of viewers. On the TV the Simpsons is on ...
...rapidly in recent years. In the mid to late 90s, the Simpsons was the must-see cartoon for children and young teenagers as well as their parents, so it is quite a disappointment to hear that it isn't what it used to be. And so, that's why I decided to buy the first series on DVD - to see how good it used to be in the beginning, regardless of whether or not it's run out of steam in the past few series. That, and also because I managed to find the ... Read review
