Directed by; Stanley Kubrick Nicholson/ Duval/ Lloyd
The late, great Stanley Kubrick directed some of the world's greatest films, including "2001 A Space Odyssey", "Full Metal Jacket" and "A Clockwork Orange". But none of his films are remembered quite like "The Shining".
There are appropriately no words strong enough to convey the haunting geniusof the visuals showcased throughout the movie, starting from the drive to the Overlook to the finale in the hadge maze. The movie is a feast for the eyes as it is for the mind. It is a feast for the mind as The Shining is a psychological as horror gets. The Shining toys relentlessly and expertly with your emotions and expectations. It has the ability to throw something in thats completely out of left field and it never, ever lets you regain your nerves between the now classic shocks as th movie speeds towards its memorable conclusion in the last half hour. "Here's Jonny" has become a household phrase, this critically acclaimed scene earned, not just The Shining but Jack Nicholson (About Schmidt) a place in the movie history books.
For any of you unlucky enough not to have ever seen this blockbuster, Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) gets a job as the custodian of the Overlook Hotel, in the rocky mountains of Colorado. The hotel is closed during winter, and Torrance and his family will be the only occupants of the hotel for the long winter. When the snow storms block the Torrance family in the hotel, Jack's son Danny who possess telepathic powers known as "The Shining", Jack has a complete mental breakdown and the ghost of Mr. Grady, the former custodian of the hotel who murdered his wife and his two daughters, Jacks actions reflect that of his predecessor and goes on something of a rampage.
If that isn't a good enough plot for you then i challenge you to show me a better horror film. Frankly your average 21st century horror film is nothing compared to the horror of the 80's. If you haven't seen this film, my only advise to you is that you go find a copy, you won't be disappointed, i guarantee it. This film is truly a pure Kubrick masterpiece.
