It had all the makings of a great horror classic, and the potential to be worthy of a place in any video collection, based on a book by a great author and directed by the late, great Kuberic, and some great actors to boot.
Sadly, like Stephen King's book, on which it was based, this film drags on for far too long with no point of interest, leaving you bored from 20 minutes in. When things do begin to happen they do so very slowly, and come across in a very cheesy, unentertaining style that almost leaves you wanting them all to die so the film will end. Some good performances by all the cast then are wasted, since you find yourself not caring anyway. Perhaps condensed into a short story and equally short film there could be enough happening to fill the space between covers / opening and closing credits.
If you do have a lot of patience with this kind of thing, I would suggest getting hold of the book from your local libary. If you can get as far as half way, maybe it's for you. Sadly, I wan't even close.
ror novel than a complete re-imagining of it from the inside out. In King's book, the Overlook Hotel is a haunted place that takes possession of its off-season caretake...
