This is the most terrifying film that I have ever watched and ever will watch. I swear that this film gave me nightmares and I am usually unaffected by any type of horror films! Despite this I still love it! I think that the psychological aspect of this film is what makes it so frightening, but Jack Nicholson plays the part of the father of the family very well indeed. He goes from being a loving caring father into a ciolent killer, and we see the story of the hotel throughout the movie, but if you look carefully right at the end looking in the framed pictures, the entire movie is brought into perspective in a single second. Anyone that hasn't seen this movie should definitely see it as it is one of my all-time favourites. With the right atmosphere it'll scare you half to death.
