1 Jack Nicholson+ 1 Empty Hotel+ 1 boy with supernatural powers+ 1 hyserical wife= 1 decent horror movie. Hold on a moment though, this movie isn't scary or frightening but it is very interesting and deeply compelling. Nicholson and all the other actors fit the script perfectly as this film throws up a very, very good story line. Jack's son has the shining (he can see the dead) and keeps seeing dead children and blood in the hotel his father is looking after for the holiday. The ghosts in the hotel slowly drive Jack crazy, hence the classic line: "all work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy" and try to make him kill his family like the previous owner, hence the classic lines "REDRUM"(murder backwards) and "Heeeeeeeeeeeeres Johnny" Jack doesn't manage to kill his family as he freezes to death in the maze in the hotel grounds after his son outwits him. Brilliant film but if you want to be scared go and rent an empty hotel in the middle of nowhere after watching this movie, believe you me you would then kno why it is a classic.
