One tiny quibble that I have is that director Wes Craven seems to be more interested in putting across the facts of the true story rather than the horror. Having said this there are a few terrifying moments, including the scene where Pullman is buried alive with a huge tarantula on his face. Oh ... more

Having said this there are a few terrifying moments, including the scene where Pullman is buried alive with a huge tarantula on his face. Oh and there is the scene when poor old Bill gets his scrotum nailed to a chair. Of course we don't get the pleasure of seeing this but I guess it's the thought that counts right?

DVD Description
Based on the real-life experiences of Wade Davis, THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW is the story of a Harvard anthropologist (Bill Pullman) who takes an assignment from a wealthy pharmaceutical firm to investigate a 'miracle' drug found in a well-established religion in Haiti--voodoo. The drug is believed to have the power to bring human beings back from the dead, and before long the rational man of science finds himself plunged into a nightmarish world of the occult--complete with black magic, blood rituals, ancient curses, and walking zombies.
