The Selecter are one of the best, and yet understated Ska Bands of the late 70's and 80's. They have a unique sound that is quite different from other ska music acts that were around at the same time such as one of the most famous ska bands 'The Specials' and 'The Beat'. The Selecter combine the off-beat sound of two-tone ska with the unique and brilliant voice of Pauline Black to create a great outcome. If you have not heard of the sound of Ska it might be described as English Reggae, originating in coventry. Another famous Ska band are Madness. Up beat, happy and 'dancable', however still containing a good message in the lyrics... sometimes.
The band have been inspirational to many famous modern artists such as Gwen Steffani, and were invited to tour with No Doubt as a supporting act. Basment Jaxx have also covered the famous hit 'On My Radio' as an album track.
The DVD:
The DVD was filmed at Dingwalls in London when The Selecter were providing support for Desmond Dekker in 2003. Since the Selecter were formed the line-up has changed and now are just a 5-piece band. The DVD features the gig live in London where The Selecter play through a set of 16 songs, including all of their biggest hits. Also included are some covers of famous ska hits and tributes to some of the biggest names in Ska.

A special feature on the DVD is an exclusive interview with Pauline Black who talks about her view on the songs and reveals future plans as a singer, presenter and actress.
The DVD is digitally filmed and as recoreded in 5.1 surround sound. It runs for approximately 98 minutes and is exempt from classification, although does contain a small amount of bad language.
Produced by Secret Films, this DVD has a top quality, studio-like sound to it. The Selecter recieve a great atmostphere with fans dancing on the stage and having a really good time. unfortunatley, camera angles seemed to be limited and not much is seen of the drummer or keyboard player.
All in all, this DVD has a great sound, but isnt too visually stimulating (its the sound that matters though right?)
