The film, The St. Francisville Experiment, takes us on a trip of education, history and sofa gripping horror and paranoia. The paranormal American horror follows a group of student film makers and paranormal investigators as they move into the house to try to document any unusual activity.
The film may induce a feeling of dejavu within the minds of horror lovers. 'I'm sure I have seen this before!". The S.t Francisville Experiment, although Original in mood and style, has a very close likeness in genre to The Blair Witch Project. Blair Witch has a group of investigators getting lost in a wood. St. Francisville has a group of investigators, with cameras, investigating a haunted house. Like Blair Witch, St. Francisville names its characters after the actors that play them. The makers have gone so far in their search for authenticity that they have not listed a director, members of crew or a single actor. It is directed by Ted Nicolaou. Particularly good is the background of the house with some gruesome stories of slaves being found chained up in the kitchen, a boy with half his face torn off, and woman who had been kept in a cage for so long that her bones were distorted. The film bends the truth to suggest that St Francisville is in New Orleans rather than the far less atmospheric and historically interesting Los Angeles where it is in reality
When the students are settled in the house the film becomes very frightening. We see some extremely jumpy scenes of chairs flying across rooms and chains falling down chimneys, you almost become unsure if it really is fiction. For those who saw humor in Heather Donahue's acting in Blair Witch, this fresh attempt will show how this difficult and almost niche genre can really be worth watching.
This is a great film and I recommend it to all. (15 and Over's).
