Mothersbaugh, psychedelic Klasky-Csupo animation and episodes like "Tricycle Thief" and "The Baby Vanishes", how could it be otherwise? And these tunes (mainly by Mothersbaugh) bridge demographics as nimbly as the show itself does. Rugrats fans of all ages will love Elvis Costello's "Throw My Toys Around" (performed by No Doubt), Angelica's screechy rendition of Blondie's "One Way or Another", Devo's goofy take on the Chipmunks' "Witch Doctor", the Subgenius-inspired "A Baby Is a Gift of Bob", the we-are-the-alternaworld star power of "This World Is Something New to Me" and kid-friendly raps from Rakim and Busta Rhymes. This "enhanced" CD also contains commercials for the movie and video game. --Richard Gehr

Red-headed Chuckie (voiced by Christine Cavanaugh) is the focus of this second Rugrats movie. Chuckie Finster, friend of Tommy, Angelica, Lil and Phil and baby Dil, has no mommy. His mommy is in heaven. He wants a new mommy.

Think that's weird? Really? Weirder than, say, a family amusement park based around a mouse?
Anyway, the terrifying boss lady of EuroReptarLand is CoCo Labouche (Susan Sarandon). She is an evil Paris person in spectacular clothes, and she schemes to marry Chuckie's dad in order to get a promotion she wants. None of the children can stand her, especially Chuckie.
After huge adventures in the way of foreign travel and saving adults from folly, the babies discover true love conquers all. Chuckie's dad ditches Coco and chooses the right woman.
Rugrats In Paris has all the pratfalls and visual humour children love, from sagging diapers to food fights. It also has plenty of laughs for the adults accompanying little viewers. Many of those laughs are at Disney's expense.
EuroReptarLand involves all the worst of Disney amusement parks in terms of visual overkill, cutesy rides and hideous theme songs.
Several sequences in this Rugrats outing also out-Disney Disney in terms of animation. Further on the dis-Disney front, Spike -- the Rugrats dog -- hooks up with a French poodle, and they dine together a la Lady And The Tramp. And wait until you hear the overwrought music and heart-stirringly cheesy lyrics of a love song to Reptar. Belle, Mulan and the Little Mermaid would blush.
Otherwise, the children offer their usual verbal misunderstandings ("Over my dead potty!"), argue amongst themselves, get bullied by Angelica and fantasize about bravery in this story; adults get to enjoy all the little visual send-ups of such movies as Godzilla, Jurassic Park and The Godfather.
Advantages: Good quality transfer and sound Disadvantages: Thin on extras
It appears Disney have had the monopoly on Kid’s DVD releases of late with acclaimed picture and sound transfers of such great films as Toy Story and Fantasia 2000. Paramount issued a DVD last year that could provide a real alternative to the Disney catalogue with Rugrats: The Movie. This particular franchise has already been developed to produce a sequel, ‘The Rugrats in Paris’, which will arrive at British cinemas shortly.

...into too much detail on the film itself for one good reason if you haven't seen it i dont want to give too much away as it is definately a must see film for anyone who likes the Rugrats, I actually bought this as an ex rental which i often do because you can get your mitts on movies long before they hit the high st. The animation is very good, compared to the the show in fact a vast improvement for this movie. Instead of delving into their lifestyles, the Rugrats gang goes on a real adventure when their families visit Paris together. Mr Pickles is brought over to fix his giant Reptar robot, the centerpiece of EuroReptarland (eurodisney eat your heart out) . There are some excellent scenes where the kids are playing in their hotel room - the Bobfather ...

Advantages: Good big scrren version of the classic cartoon Disadvantages: A bit too soppy in places
...a lot else on at the cinema and because who doesn't love the Rugrats?!
As a regular viewer of the cartoon and a fan of the previous film i knew what i was in for, mad cap fun with Tommy and the gang, and this is exactly what you get!
The basic plot is that the gang all head off to Paris as Stu (Tommy's dad) has designed a Raptar robot for EuroRaptar land and he must go fix it. Previous to this the film focuses on the fact that poor old Chucky (everyone's ... ...wants a new wife so the decide to look for one in the most romantic city in the world.
Of course it doesn't all go according to plan with the love of his life right under his nose, Chaz (chucky's dad)starts to fall for this evil french woman who only wants to marry him to get a foot up in the Raptarland corporate ladder. Suffice it to say, the babies aren't happy with this!
As a whole this is not as a good as the previous one but it ain't far off. ...

The Rugrats Movie is a great children's film that is not just for kids! Adults will love it too, and who couldn't with the adorable characters Tommy, Chucky, Phil and Lil and the not so adorable angelica. Of course the movie is based around the new arrival to the Pickles family, Dill. Tommy and Dill do not seem to get on at first, but when their Reptar wagon runs out of control and gets them all lost, friendships seem to strengthen... even Angelica, ...

Advantages: Good fast pace second half Disadvantages: Slow start
...both better and worse than the first Rugrats movie, better in that when this movie is good (the second half) it is very good, lots of fun high octane action, with a big (really, really big) chase across Paris as the finale. The main problem is that you have to sit through the first half to get there, this part of the movie is not to put to fine a point of it boring. The average youngster will probabily spend the first half of the movie jumping up ... ...and can they go to the toilet. The error that the makers have fallen into is that they have used an adult movie format (set scene, possible solution to problem, failure, new better solution, happy ending) which does not quite work during the early stages as the set scene stage is far to long and dreary. The film starts to pick up as soon as the Rats hit Paris and its the ususl stuff from there on in.
When you take your kids to see the movis (they ...

Advantages: Great family fun Disadvantages: Tommy has a reduced role! He should get a better agent!
As most parent with small children will know, Rugrats is a gem of a TV show; a cartoon that appeals to mum and dad as much as the children. It is intelligently written and always includes a few jokes just for the grown-ups without being suggestive. The first film, imaginatively entitled "Rugrats: The Movie", was a bit of a disappointment. After a hugely entertaining and very funny first fifteen minutes it degenerated into a plotless runaround that only young children could like - and it ignored one of the best ‘villains’ in the series: Angelica. I’m glad to report that the inevitable sequel is more in the tradition of the best TV episodes.
For those of you unfamiliar with the format, the "rugrats" are the young children whose parent all live in the same neighbourhood. This movie actually clarifies some points for me ...
Advantages: Funny, appeals to all Disadvantages: We are watching it every spare minute!
Our film collection is starting to include more and more children's films now that our daughter is of an age when she is pretty vocal about her preferences. Our latest addition was 'Rugrats In Paris', which we picked up for £2.97 at our local Asda. The cartoon series is one of the favourites in our house, so we knew that the film would go down a treat, as I was sure the success it had at the box office ensured a quality offering. We also have the first film on video, so were keen to complete the small collection.
A lot of the attention in the film is focused on Chuckie, who viewers of the cartoon will know is red haired child, who is very hard to like at times. In the film, we find out that Chuckie's mother died (which was news to me) when he was an infant, and we find him pining for a mother figure. He decides that he will find a new ...
Advantages: Usual Rugrats characters, new characters, the dog, good soundtrack Disadvantages: Too sad in parts
a couple of children I know who would have left the cinema in tears at this point.
The rest of the film was classic Rugrats, though. As in the first movie, this was mainly about the babies, with the adults playing only supporting roles.
My children liked one part in particular – where Chuckie was dreaming that he was a ninja. Isn’t it funny that the most boring bits for adults tend to be the most interesting ones for children?
They also liked the end, where the ‘baddie’ lost the back of her dress and her underwear was on show. They have since been singing the rhyme that one of the characters quoted, “I’ve seen Paris, I’ve seen France, I’ve seen Coco’s underpants”.
The other bit that caused a lot of laughter was where there is a close-up of Spike, the Rugrats’ dog ...
