Okay bear with me on this one as I haven't written a review for quite some time now.

So where shall I start?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't really know why but I was looking forward to the release of 'The Royal Tenenbaums' - it seemed to have a good cast and it looked amusing. A nice movie....well that was what I was expecting. I couldn't have been further from the truth.
Half an hour into the film I was already wishing I hadn't bothered with this it but thought to myself 'no no, it can't be that bad. I'm sure it'll pick up...it's just slow to start off with. Can't be this bad with all these good actors/actresses in!' It was that bad. I stayed right until the end, unlike quite a few other people who got up and left throughout the duration of the movie.
So what was so bad about it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The story was rubbish. There was no point to this film whatsoever. It seemed like a variation to The Adams Family, but with less of a storyline. Considering there were quite a few well known people in it (Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller, Danny Glover, Bill Murray and more familiar names) I was definitely expecting something a little more than what I got. The humour was appalling....there were a couple of funny moments but in hindsight they perhaps seemed a lot funnier than they really were due to the depressing lack of substance to the entire film.

I really don't have much comment to make about the plot really. I'm sure other people have explained it all before - to sum it up, it's about a weird family who break apart and then get reunited together for one reason or another. Gwyneth Paltrow hardly seemed to do anything else apart from be depressing and smoke a fag. The only 'amusing' character was played by Gene Hackman, and that was the weird father.

Ahhhhhhhhh, I really haven't seen such a bad film in a LONG time.
If any of you have ever had the misfortune of seeing 'The Sewage Baby' you will understand what I mean when I say that this was even worse than that!

There are so many other films on at the cinema at the moment that you could easily avoid this one, and avoid it I advise you to do!

    Your opinion is concise and reflects exactly what I thought of the film. How did they get such a good cast to become involved in this rubbish?
