The Royal Pacific Hotel has the best location in Hong Kong

Advantages: Very good location, view of Victoria Harbour
Disadvantages: Front desk was slow. The buffet restaurant serves almost the same menu everyday.

We stayed at this hotel in September 2009. There was a typhoon signal No. 1 over Hong Kong at that time. Obviously, our choice of travel date was bad. But Royal Pacific proved to be a good choice. Almost everything was within walking distance from this hotel. And just below it is the Hong Kong-Macao ferry wharf. But i think the front desk people were rather slow. When we checked in, it took us about 30 min to get through. It was a bit crowded. The rooms were rather small, but were well-appointed and clean. They have a great buffet but I would not recommend the guest to rely on it for all their meals during their stay. They just kind of repeat the menu everyday. Except for about 5 new recipes, everything were a repeat of yesterday's menu. ...

Review of The Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers, Hong Kong

Battle Royale: an exciting, darkly comic, important film

Advantages: Stunning commentary on a dystopic future
Disadvantages: Too dark and controversial for some audiences

note: also appears on my film review website, ShaunMunro.co.uk, and Dooyoo! Battle Royale, the adaptation of Koshun Takami's fabulous novel of the same name, is near enough controversy at 24 frames per second, unleashing a downbeat, counter-culture, subversive tone from its matter-of-fact opening, to its twist-filled end. Much furore has surrounded the fact that this film is still unreleased in America (contrary to the belief that the film was banned), most postulating that a film involving school kids killing each other is simply too close to the bone in the wake of the Columbine, and more recently, Virginia Tech shootings (which means that things don't bode well for the already ill-fated American remake of this film). Much comparison has been drawn to Kubrick's cerebral masterpiece A Clockwork Orange, in how both films accompany ...

The Pacific Player

Advantages: Low cost, can be reset to multi region, comes with scart lead
Disadvantages: not all the advantages of more expensive makes such as Sony etc

With my old dvd player recently throwing a school girl like tantrum and refusing to play any more, i was forced into buying a replacement machine. Off to Asda i went and came across the Pacific 1002 DVD player. Costing me £35. The first thing i noticed when purchasding the dvd player is that a Scart lead provided with the player - Bonus!! The machine is set to Region 2 out of the box, however if you look on-line there are many sites which list codes allowing you to easily change the machine to multi region, allowing a greater selection of dvd The machine is DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 compatible, has a 3 step zoom function, multi speed slow motion, on screen displays, and a rather nice touch is supplied with a Scart lead in the box. The machine offers up to 16x Fast Forward and Reverse playback, with slow motion in ...
