If a musical/science fiction/parody about an alien transvestite building the perfect man while playing strange sex games with his visitors, sounds like an interesting start for a movie, then you're in for a treat. Not only is this film all of the above and more, but it stars a brilliant cast - Susan Sarandon (playing Janet) Barry Bostwick (playing Brad), Meat Loaf (playing Eddie), Charles Gray (who is the narrator), Richard O'Brien (the butler Riff-Raff) and, of course, the supreme Tim Curry as the sweet transvestite from Transsssssssexual, Transylvania (playing Dr Frank n Furter).
A major part of the movie's appeal is audience participation from dressing up like the characters (I'm not telling you which one I dress up as!), singing along, using props and responding to lines in the film. While you can't recreate this experience at home (although I try) this film is enormously good fun. It loses a lot of its charm when you watch it alone. But that just means you'll have to get your pals joining in!
Tim Curry is brilliant; from his masterful yet wistful cries of 'Oh Rocky!' to his flashy and corny performance of 'Sweet Transvestite.' Other good performances include that of Susan Sarandon as the naive and inexperienced yet curious Janet. Richard O'Brien plays the handyman Riff Raff in a stiff style which reminds me of Lurch from the Addams Family.
OK, the plot line is thoroughly ridiculous and I'll admit Rocky Horror isn't for everybody. Some may even write it off as 'sick' and others might view it as pointless, but this movie is all in good humour.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is definately one of a kind. The songs are really addictive (just try getting 'The Time Warp' or 'Toucha Toucha Touch Me' out of your head). It's an incredibly funny, brilliantly ironic piece of film history. Watching it for the first time or 1000th, you will have fun. (as long as you have an open mind and a sense of humour)
If you have a DVD player, get this film on that version, the 25-year re-release has apparently 2 discs with loads of extras – I might just have to ask for it for Christmas. ;+)

I agree, this film is brilliant, I first saw it on a rather drunk New Years' Eve and have been in love with it ever since. I have a few friends who think it is not funny or sick but I think it's hilarious, it looks like it was great fun to act and it's brilliant to sing along to, as long as you don't do it on a busy high street! great op. My whole family wrote this film off as sick, fortunately my dearest friends did not, and took me off to see the 25th anniversary tour. You write about is as if you have seen the show, but if you haven't you will love it. I must admit I loved the plot too. Any fan of Rocky Horror, should be a friend of mine.

O'Brien's sinfully twisted salute to horror, sci-fi, B-movies and rock music starring Tim Curry (in his classic gender-bending performance), Barry Bostwick and Osca...
Advantages: MeatLoaf, the Time Warp, and as close to being at the theatre as you can be at home Disadvantages: It's Rocky, What disadvantages could there be??
