I have watched both versions of the ring I would recommend that you watch the Jap version first even though it is subtitled or dubbed it is so good. However this version is just as good and you don’t have to worry about misreading any of the subtitles. I must say I was very scared watching this film don’t recommend alone viewing, at the end of the film I was praying that the phone wouldn’t ring I think I would have had heart failer if it had.

THE PLOT

As the film starts we see two teenage girls discussing a legend involving a videotape and the moment you finish watching it you receive a phone call telling you that you have a week to live. The girl who told the story was journalist Rachel’s niece and when she suddenly dies of fright Rachel takes it upon herself to investigate an urban myth of a videotape that kills the viewer a week after watching it. Rachel tries to retrace her nieces last weekend and finds the video tape in a log cabin far out in the country, in true journalist curiosity, she decides to watch it for herself (which is a big mistake) she soon realises that she has a week to solve the mystery of the tape or fall victim to its sinister power.

The biggest twist of all is that her ex love Noah and her son Aidan have also watched the tape can they all be saved before it is too late. Rachel and Noah travel to find the tape’s origin which is Pacific Northwest where a town was hit with numerous amounts of horse suicides. The film has some hard hitting stories especially about the little girl that causes all the people who watch the tape to die. You find out that Samara the little girls seems to have caused all the deaths of the horses at her fathers ranch and it resulted in her parents thinking she was evil and her mother finally cant take it and pushes her deep into a well and covers the well and leaves her to die.

One part of the film that scared me quite a bit and I do recommend a pillow or someone to hide behind and that is when the little girl climbs out of the well and out of the TV and attacks Noah this was Very Scary

Well I cant wait to see the Ring 2 and Ring 0 the concluding parts to the Ring the jap versions are already out and an american version of the Ring 2 is in the pipeline so that should be good.

I wasnt fussed on how the film actually ended i know it leaves it open for the next film but i still think it could have been better.

DVD EXTRAS

* A 15 min experimental short film created by director Gore Verbinski exclusively for the release of the film.

* Animated menus

* Trailer

Being a film that was released in 2003 i was very disappointed by the DVD extras i was actually looking to get deleted scenes, maybe cast interviews, maybe even something about the making of the film but there wasnt anything i give this a poor 1/5 for DVD extras.

The only bit that really freaked me out was the girl coming out the Tv at the end, or more precisely the erratic way she moved...good op! Becki x

I recommended this film to my sister and knew when she was watching it. I got my neice to text me when the film had just ended and then I phoned my sister and just whispered "You have 7 days!" She nearly wet herself! LOL - I am SOOO evil at times! Mwah, mwah, mwah! - Suzyxx
