I first caught this late at night on channel 4, it was just one of those films they show at 1am to fill up their schedule but I was actually very impressed with it. On first watching it I missed the first half an hour so I ordered it on DVD from play.com for the bargain price of £3.99.
This film stars Halle Berry in one of her lesser known roles. It was released on 13th September 1996 so was also quite an early role for her & she wasn't the huge star that she is today at the time of this films release. This film was written & directed by Amy Holden Jones who's most notable film was the early Julia Roberts film Mystic Pizza which she wrote.
The film is based around Josie Potenza, married to an older man Tony Potenza (Christopher McDonald). Their marriage is on the rocks & while alone in a bar she gets talking to a charming stranger named Cole (Peter Greene). She's had a bit too much to drink & to her dismay she wishes her husband dead in front of the mysterious stranger. Little does she know that this wish is about to become reality. With her husband dead & eye witnesses that heard Josie wish her husband dead there's only one prime suspect. Clive Owen is also among the supporting cast playing Jake Golden, the man having an affair with Josie.
This is a brilliant, well written suspense/thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It has many unexpected twists that will keep you guessing & has a brilliant ending which I definitely didn't see coming. This is a great role for Halle Berry & she portrays the grief stricken wife who turns out to be the prime suspect in her husbands murder investigation. I'd recommend this film to any fan of Halle Berry or Clive Owen or indeed any fan of a good, taut thriller & this will undoubtedly have you hooked from start to finish. The plot is great & the twists are fantastic & keep surprising you.
This film is rated 18 as they are parts which include graphic violence but don't let that put you off, it's not a horror! It runs for approximately 91 minutes.
There are no special features included with this DVD but as this film is nearly 13 years old that can be forgiven! Special features or no special features, this film is definitely special & deserves a watch.
