DVD Description
RETURN is the third installment in the popular Pink Panther series and a reunion for director Blake Edwards and comedian Peter Sellers, who had not made a Panther film since A SHOT IN THE DARK a decade earlier. This time the bumbling French detective Inspector Clouseau is reluctantly called back into service by Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) when someone swipes the infamous Pink Panther diamond from the museum in Lugash. The prime suspect is the smoothly aristocratic jewel thief Sir Charles Lytton (Christopher Plummer), aka the Phantom. Clouseau creates his usual comic mayhem in an assortment of European watering holes as he attempts to track down the jet-setting criminal. While Lytton, who is, on this rare occasion, innocent of the crime in question, joins in the pursuit of the real criminals to avoid arrest, his lovely wife, Claudine (Catherine Schell), leads the myopic Clouseau on a wild-goose chase. As usual, Clouseau's creative methods of deduction drive Inspector Dreyfus ever closer to the brink of insanity. Sellers's comic genius is set off by a fine cast and spectacular European locations, including Gstaad and the French Riviera as well as Marakesh and Casablanca.
Advantages: Great collection of some classic films Disadvantages: Missing my favourite film - The Return of the Pink Panther

Audio Commentary
The packaging has been produced so that the six discs take up as little space as possible - it's in a fold out format, with each disc being inserted on each page. This is quite handy, as if each disc were to have it's own case inside one large collection box, it would take up much more room than it does. The case is decorated aptly with cartoon caricatures of Clouseau, and it's like this inside the fold out collection too.
Including five films in one set is a great idea, but I am disappointed that the studio couldn't include The Return of the PinkPanther, which is probably my favourite panther film. It's got some great inane humour from Sellers, and Herbert Lom gives a great performance as Clouseau's deranged boss. For some time I tried to track down this title on video or DVD to complete my collection, and now...

...'Have you ever seen a panther that is pink? Think!'
The PinkPanther animation started out as a short to precede the PinkPanther films, and is seen on the opening credits of some of the Inspectoe Clousea films. He was proved to be hugely succesful and so a show of his own was commissioned, using the same distinctive theme tune by Henry Mancini.
I have always been a fan of the PinkPanther on telly as long as I can remember, I still remember watching a triple bill of PinkPanther at tea-time on a Saturday afternoon and wishin I had a car like the one the little kid had on the closing credits. So spotting this in HMV for 20 quid I decided that was a small price to pay for over 13 hours of joy. Yes, that's right. This DVD contains every episode of the original PinkPanther cartoons fom the 60's and 70's and they all add up to over 13...
