Advantages: Fun and the same lovable characters from the first film Disadvantages: None
I loved the 'Rescuers' made by Disney back in 1977 and back then before all the more up to date sequels to classic Disney films started to appear, there really wasn't any second films made from a classic already brought out. This was the exception though and in 1990 we saw the release of the sequel to the brilliant Rescuers that was 'The Rescuers Down Under'. This was the 29th animated Disney film.

The story: Bernard and Bianca, two very daring mice who are members of the Rescue Aid Society, are called in to help a young boy named Cody who is trying to save a great eagle from a poacher. They enlist the help of Wilbur again, the seagull, to fly them to Australia's outback where they begin their search for Cody along with the help of Jake, a kangaroo mouse. Will the brave mice be able to help and save Cody and the eagle?
The cast: The cast in terms of voices had the same actors for the same characters as the last film and so some are the same this time around. However we are also introduced to some new characters which are listed below with the rest of the cast -
Bernard - Bob Newhart Bianca - Eva Gabor Wilbur - John Candy Jake - Tristan Rogers Cody - Adam Ryen Percival C Mcleach - George C Scott
I really thought the voices were well done in the first film and the second film is no exception. Sticking with the same actors to do the voices is a good move as it ensures continuity which is always good for children's films as then they can remember the characters by voice as well as the look.
Extras: Unfortunately my copy of The Rescuers Down Under is on VHS not DVD. Therefore I have no extras on mine but if picking up one of the DVD's of this film it has a variety of extras including a 'making of' and short cartoons along with a variety of other extra features.
Overall opinion: Again this is another Disney film that I love - there isn't really one that I don't like but with the characters in both of the Rescuers films I personally love how they are done and the way they come across on screen. Obviously this film isn't as old as some of the other classic Disney ones. Yes it's nearly 20 years old already but it still holds a more modern feel to it which is nice. The characters are once again fun and cute. Interestingly, this film was the first Disney film to have been done 100% digitally. It still had the hand drawn characters but all colouring as such was done by computer and also interestingly, another third Rescuers film was planned for 1996 but, because of the death of Eva Gabor it was scrapped and never made.
I highly recommend this film and as bonus it is available a lot cheaper than most of the other Disney films at around the £5 mark from various online retailers.
Advantages: Elaborate, advanced animation techniques. Disadvantages: Lacking in story, music, characters, heart; too much un-needed jokes.
As much as I loved the original "The Rescuers" and as much as I love most of the Walt Disney animated classics, I did not like "The Rescuers Down Under". I wanted to like it, I really did; when I learned about a sequel to my favorite Walt Disney classic of all time, no doubt I was excited about seeing and wanted to enjoy it as much as I did the first. Unfortunately, after viewing only the first few minutes of the film, I knew I was going to be disappointed.
... ...many of the original characters possible, I did not expect to run into the same exact storyline as the first. Imagine, a little blonde boy needs rescuing, this time in Australia, from an old treasure seeker who needs to boy to get his hands on a valuable golden eagle. It's not the same victims and villains, but the story is just the same. The film is also a "comedy" instead of another heartwarming tale of heroism and rescue as I had hoped for. The ...

This sequel to The Rescuers is superior in many respects. The animation, for instance, is leaps and bounds ahead. There are a great many startling, dramatic depth shots that may cause you to get a little giddy if you're afraid of heights. The production has a crisper feel. The villain, this time around, is conniving and evil, as usual, but he's got two very interesting sidekicks: Joanna, a wicked yet funny lizard (watch for a classic scene involving ...

Advantages: Great entertainment, very colourful but I guess that's the way for most animations... Disadvantages: I remember it being quite long, for a kid....
Ah, it was the good old days when I saw this film! It was still only available on video!!
To be completely honest, I hadn't really seen the first one before I saw this. This was one of the first Disney movies that I saw and remembered as a kid! Wow, that sounds like ages ago....!
Let me see, it was about two mice who were sent on the mission to Rescue a little boy with their transport method, an albatross. They had to go into the Australian outback ... ...help them on their way. The adventure is a crazy and wild one, especially for our two little posh mice who were quite reluctant to give up the quality of life for the desert sands.
The animation in this film is when Disney are first exploring the possibilities of 3D animation. One of the scenes that will stay with me forever is when the little boy finds the eagle. He carresses the golden soft feathers of the majestic creature. It was so warm and ...
