The story, told with a minimum of dialogue, concerns a little boy (played by the director's son Pascal) who comes across a helium-filled balloon. As he plays with his new acquisition, the boy discovers that the balloon seemingly has a mind of its own. The little red orb follows its new 'master' all through the streets of Paris, and then dogs the boy's trail into the schoolroom, which drives the teacher to comic distraction. Towards the end, it seems as though boy and balloon will be parted forever....but director Lamorisse has a delightful surprise in store for us.

Hsien (Caf Lumire, City of Sadness), this exquisite film, inspired by Albert Lamorisse?s classic 1953 film The Red Balloon (described by Franois Truffaut as ''one of the most beautiful colour films ever made''), finds its own place within a continuing tradition of great French cinema.A young boy, Simon (Simon Iteanu) must deal with the increasing fragility of his mother, the loving yet preoccupied puppeteer Suzanne, played by Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient, Chocolat). Overwhelmed by the demands of her chaotic existence, Suzanne hires Song (Song Fan), a Taiwanese film student, to help care for Simon. With Song, a unique extended family is formed, utterly interdependent yet lost in their separate thoughts and dreams; all this is mirrored by a delicate, shiny red balloon that hovers above the Paris streets.
The Red Balloon and White Mane remain timeless and wonderful children's classics. Unseen ... more

Balloon Time!

Back in January we had planned a surprise 60th birthday party for my Nan. We wanted to have helium balloons tied to the tables and the original plan was to rent a helium canister and buy some helium balloons but this worked out quite expensive. Fortunately whilst browsing Asda I came across a bright green box with ?Balloon Time? written on the front and pictures of kids holding helium balloons. Upon further examination I realised that the box contained everything you need to make up to 30 helium balloons. It cost £20 so we brought two boxes.
The box contained 30 assorted colour 9? latex helium balloons, a light weight helium canister and a spool of ribbon. The helium canister was ideal as it was really light so could easily be transported and it was ...

I bought mine through a book club through work, but I have seen similar kits in department and gift shops, you can buy online from http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk/children-gifts/presents/balloon-modeling-kit.html This kit is really quite good a fun party item.
This kit contains 30 balloons the balloons come in a variety of colours. The balloons are those long thin ones.
The pack also includes a balloon pump and a booklet with instructions of how to make balloon sculptures. With a little dexterity you can make elephants, swans, dogs and many other reasonably recognizable models. A favorite one that often gets made is a long balloon usually a pink one with two circular twists at the base now no prizes for guessing what this is tee, hee, giggle giggle.
The balloons in this kit are quite strong will withstand the twisting ...
