The Real McCoy [VINYL] - McCoy Tyner

The Real McCoy [VINYL] - McCoy Tyner

This 1967 quartet recording features two then-young musicians now seen as veterans. While ... more

Joe Henderson, on whose debut album Tyner had
played back in  1963, was still forging his
reputation, the pianist himself was far better
known  after spending five-and-a-half years with
the leading group of the day, the John Coltrane
Quartet. For his first outing on the already
prestigious Blue Note label,  Tyner completed the
line-up with his Coltrane colleague Elvin Jones on
drums and  Miles Davis's bassist Ron Carter. The
five Tyner compositions which make up this  set
are by now standard jazz repertoire and, in most
cases, have been re- recorded by Tyner as well as
by others. This hardly detracts from the power of
the originals, for tunes like "Passion Dance" and
"Contemplation" gain from the  beneficial tension
between the participants and the then-unfamiliar
material. By  the time of the closing medium-tempo
"Blues On The Corner", the tension has  evaporated
but the urgency is still there and, though the
whole performance is  more straight-forward and
less intense than latter-day Coltrane, the quality
of  Tyner's music is undiminished by time. --Brian
Priestley

mysterious. There is just something 'irresistible' able the design. The front of the packet is gold , with the famous McCoys' logo located in the centre of the packet. The logo ,which appears to be a black circle ; the top half of it says 'The Real' in a gold font , then 'McCoys' is written across the 'circle' in large white capitals , a logo which instantly catches your eye. On the bottom half of the circle are the words 'Ridge Cut'. Below this large logo is a blue background with 'Salt and malt vinegar' scrolled across it in large white capitals. Underneath in gold reads 'Flavour Ridge Cut Potato Chips'. I turn the packet round and am faced with a silver background with two columns of information. The first column provides us with information on the crisps such as "unique recipe" and "great flavours" , along with their catchphrase ; " The Real ...

Review of McCoys Ridge Cut Salt and Malt Vinegar

The Real McCoy!

Advantages: Strong Flavour!
Disadvantages: Smelly Breath!

Okay, so it's Wednesday and I was feeling a little down earlier so I thought a little treat was in order, so I indulged a little.... okay then a lot. But when I was in Henry Healey's this lunch time buying my usual lunch, I just happened to be glancing over at the crisp stand and there they were, McCoy's Cheddar & Onion, "screaming" at me to buy them and who am I to refuse? You must have seen these KP branded snacks on your travels to shops, supermarkets etc., In their easily recognisable gold and green foil packaging, which helps to retain freshness which can I just say, they do rather well. It's probably not a good idea not to have too near your nose when opening, the smell has been known to put some people off, not me, I love the smell of cheese - the stronger the better is my motto. I can hardly wait before stuffing these ...

Review of McCoy's Crisps

The real McCoys!!

Advantages: Tasty, strong flavour, crunchy
Disadvantages: not amazingly healthy

I love crisps of any description, usually Walkers but when I'm in the mood for a treat I pick McCoys. McCoys are produced in the UK by United Biscuits. According to their website they are now the third biggest brand in the bagged snacks market with 5 million packs being consumed each week, shocking figures!! McCoy's are flavour ridge cut potato chips. The great thing about these is that the chips are quite thick and crunchy and each one has a very bold flavour. Unlike some brands of crisps it seems that each crisp has been coated in the flavour which is nice because you get a really strong taste. They are often marketed as "male" crisps as I think they conjure up an image of strong, working crisps and of being "the Real McCoy". The Salt and Vinegar flavour is very tangy so if you love S&V this is definitely a good choice for you ...
