DVD Description
Features the James Stewart westerns THE RARE BREED and SHENANDOAH. In THE RARE BREED, a widow and her daughter enlist the help of a Sam 'Bulldog' Burnett to realise the dream of her late husband: to introduce Hereford cattle into the American West. However, the road to Texas is riddled with dangers - including those who would like to get their hands on the rare breed. In SHENANDOAH, peace-loving Southern farmer tries to stay neutral during the American Civil War, but he is drawn into conflict when his son is captured.
Advantages: A good example of a Hollywood swashbuckler Disadvantages: The meandering storyline, it cannot decide if its either tragic or Disney in style.
...The Patriot is a mishmash of films gone before. It mixes the family theme from the James Stewart classic Shenandoah, with the action style of Last of the Mohicans and the battle scenes from Braveheart. The film has received criticism for its portrayal of British imperialism as oppressive and brutal, the truth is sometimes uncomfortable to hear. Whilst the battle scenes are graphic the story veers uncomfortably from tragic to Disneyesque without pausing for breath. Mel Gibson does what he does best, he plays Mel Gibson. Having said all of that The Patriot is a good old fashioned adventure film and, if its a slice of swashbuckling Hollywood action that you want then this is your film....

Advantages: great epic action, Mel Gibson at his best Disadvantages: a bit over long
...of the story line from the Western classic 'Shenandoah'. Gibson - the action hero - if superb as ever, but his eldest son played by young Aussie newcomer Heath Ledger is another scene stealer.
Suffice to say there is a happy ending, with quite a bit of sadness along the way.
Well worth watching - especially if you are a Mel Gibson fan...

Advantages: Great humour fun to watch over and over again Disadvantages: Lack of extra features
...Excuse the title, its late and i'm tired! I had never heard of Adam Sandler before i watched this film, since I watched It I have watched every film he has ever made, that should tell you something! Adam Sandler is of a rarebreed, an American Comedian who is actually funny. The story is about happy who tries and tries in vain to become an ice hockey player, but is awful at skating, when the IRS come to take away his grand-mothers house, he has to find a way to make some money to try to save it, and as the workmen are clearing the house, he discovers his drive is considerably longer than the workmens and uses this talent to go and make some money, from then on, its laughs all the way, and Sandler is absoloutely superb, fiting the role to a TEE ( I cant beleive i wrote that).
I'm not what you would call a golf fan, but i love this film...
