The first time I saw this, I was expecting it to be nothing like the book and therefore was not looking forward to watching it. A classic 80's film about a middle class family. A mother and her two daughters and one son having to rough it for a while and learn some valuable life lessons, whilst their father/husband is in prison. The basic plot is about how they all pull together in the time of crisis, and the new friends they make in a little village near a train station. Adults and Children alike seem to love it. I know Me and my daughter did, it kept us both quiet for the whole two hours and made us laugh and cry. A good all round film with various morals in it:- Always tell the truth. Good always prevails wins over evil, I’m sure you get the picture.

"A classic 80's film about a middle class family". You've got to be kidding me, surely? This film was made in 1970 (with Jenni Agutter as Bobbi) and the updated version (also with Jenny Agutter, this time as 'Mother') was made in 2000. A short paragraph does not make a review and certainly not one as badly researched as this. Sorry, but do your homework.

Having being brought up near Howarth in my early teens, the Railway Children brought back a lot of memories of my youth, going into the areas where this was filmed, Trully a remarkable film and true to the period the film and book alike portrays. Certainly I would strongly reccomend this film to anyone,, as well as being a great film,, it can also have good educational values too. Lynn-Marie

Review of The Railway Children (DVD)
Advantages: An overall classic that is never too boring to watch again and again Disadvantages: Maybe not for everybody, really for people who enjoy a family film with excitement and adventure.
