Advantages: Good story, some good acting, nice scenery Disadvantages: Very bad painted backdrops!
the only problem being she is the sister of his now rival Will and as the town is very old fashioned Sean has tog et the permission of Will to court her. With the help of the drunk Michaeleen, the town marriage broker and taxi driver and all round drunk he tries to get Will to change his mind but when he point blank refuses Sean gives up.
Will the townspeople be able to change Will?s mind and will the two rivals ever make peace?
I was quiet impressed with this film as it is far from being a western or cowboy film. The storyline was very good and I did learn from it, the ways of the old fashioned dating experience was new to me and I did find it interesting how they had to ask permission to from the man of the house to date a lady and how they were not allowed to be on their own when courting. The Quiet Earth is another film about an apocalyptic scenario and being the extinction of humans in the world, but it doesn't take the typical approach in the form of flesh-eating zombies, catastrophic wars or a deadly disease.
The film itself has a very lonely and somber tone and true to the title, is very quiet for large durations throughout. Consequently this film isn't an action-packed thriller but rather a unique novelty, with only 3 characters within the time frame.
The performance from the main character was strong and even though he is by himself as a lone character for much of the film. The performances of the other 2 characters are average, but at times, particularly 'Api' can be considered as humorous at times.

In THE QUIET MAN, Sean Thornton is a retired American boxing champion trying to put tragedy behind him by returning to Innisfree, the bucolic Irish village of his birth. He purchases his birthplace from its current owner, enraging the wealthy and bellicose Red Will Danaher, who had designs on the property. On arriving at his cottage, Thornton finds it being swept out by Mary Kate Danaher, a redheaded vision from whom he steals a not completely unwelcome kiss. After engaging in a subterfuge involving a horse race, some of the locals manage to get the disgruntled Red Will to allow his sister to be courted by the American. But the courtship ritual of the village is only the first of many local practices that the bewildered Thornton must endure if he is to have Mary Kate. In RIO GRANDE, Kirby York is a colonel at an army outpost along the U.S. Mexico border where the Apache are always a problem. When his son, Jeff--whom he hasn't seen in more than a decade--arrives at the fort after flunking out of West Point, Yorke treats him coldly, warning the young man not to expect preferential treatment, which Jeff assures him he doesn't want. Yorke's ex-wife Kathleen appears, intending to persuade Jeff to leave the army. Yorke refuses to do the necessary paperwork to release his son, a decision seconded by Jeff, who has begun to adapt to army life--and before Kathleen can regroup for another attempt, the fort is attacked by the Apache.
