High-flying workaholic book editor, Margaret Tate, is the boss from hell. Every time she arrives at the office emails are sent round to every employee warning them that the wicked witch is on her broom, newspapers are thrown in drawers, telephone conversations to friends are halted, seats are rigidly sat in and work documents are opened. Unfortunately for Andrew Paxton he has the despised job of being her assistant which means completing demeaning tasks her for and being her personal punching bag.
When Margaret is called into her boss's office and is told that her VISA has run out and she is going to be deported back to Canada, she does the first thing that comes to mind to keep her in the country - she announces that her and Andrew are engaged. With the threat of loosing his job, a shocked Andrew unwilling agrees to go along with his boss's scam. But first they must visit his family in Alaska and convince both them and a disbelieving immigration officer that they really are in love. Many embarrassing and cringe-worthy situations ensue for the pair when they are forced into showing their true love for each other in the run up to their wedding. But will their weekend away out of the office turn their relationship into a better one or will they just end up despising each other even more?

I love a good rom-com but The Proposal looked like it was set to be a great one starring the fabulous Sandra Bullock. I'd heard all positive things about the film so had high expectations when I came to watching it myself. And I was not at all disappointed.
I've always enjoyed Sandra Bullock's films but have only really seen her in action films such as Speed and Crash. I loved Miss Congeniality though and she brought the same breath of fresh air to The Proposal as she did in that. She adds a touch of class and sophistication to the film which makes it very enjoyable to watch and not at all silly or over the top like many rom-coms turn out to be. She played the part brilliantly with elegance, grace and the attitude that she was better than everyone else. Although we saw that she was the boss from hell at the beginning of the film with the way she'd strut into a room and look and talk down to others, I did think she could have been given a few bitchier lines simply to emphasise the fact that she was a complete bitch. However, she played the part very well as you could see that the bitchiness was purely a face she put on and that, although she didn't act it, she actually wasn't too bad a person.
Ryan Reynolds is a fairly unknown actor with his main film being Definitely, Maybe which wasn't a huge movie. However, he was wonderful in this film and I think he played the part perfectly. Although Andrew is closer to Margaret than any other employee, he obviously hates her and only puts up with her to get somewhere in his job. His actions and comments towards her are very sarcastic and comical and their working relationship is a strained one. When he agrees to marry her, Andrew realises that he has the upper hand for once and their relationship becomes more equal and Andrew no longer feels the need to bow down to her every whim.
Bullock and Reynolds were the perfect pairing for the film and worked together so well - you could feel the hate radiating off Andrew for his boss, the belittlement Margaret had for him, the awkwardness and embarrassment when they had to pretend to be in love and the feelings they then began to develop for each other. The chemistry between them, whether love or hate, was perfect. The sarcastic and ironic comments and actions which Andrew showed towards Margaret provided the main bulk of the humour and there were so many times these made me laugh so much.
As I said above, because of Sandra Bullock's presence in the film, it was not at all silly or over the top and it played out like a very realistic story. Although a little predictable where the story will end up, the cringey and embarrassing moments along with Andrew's sarcastic personality made the film so funny and there were so many of these which made this a brilliant and hilarious film. I've not heard any negative comments about The Proposal and it seems that even all the men are thoroughly enjoying it as well, just as much as us girls are. This is definitely a film worth watching so girls, drag the guys down to the cinema because you're both sure to love it.

...whip-wielding [symbolically speaking] boss of the worst kind. She's tough as nails, wouldn't even know how to crack a smile, and has absolutely no idea what 'feelings' are. The employees live in fear of her, however, her superiors appreciate the neat and tidy work environment she has created and respect her strong-willed workaholic ways because they work to the company's advantage. Unfortunately for Andrew Paxton, he's Margaret's assistant, and although ... ...denied a work Visa in the US and is about to be deported back to Canada [her home], she takes one look at clueless Andrew Paxton, an all-around nice guy, and tells her bosses that she and Andrew are getting married! Stunned, Andrew goes along with his arrogant boss-from-hell while they are in the presence of the 'big' boss, but immediately balks the moment they return to Margaret's office. For obvious reasons, Andrew isn't too keen about the idea ...

...what could be described as the boss from hell and is loathed by every single one of her colleagues. After learning that she is going to be deported back to her home country of Canada she hatches a plan to save herself from deportation… marriage.
She blackmails her hard working and loyal assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) into marrying her, if he marries her he gets a promotion so it’s a win win situation. What they aren’t aware of is that they ... ...Andrew goes along with the scam and takes Margaret to meet his family in Alaska with the hope of convincing them of their engagement. The family quickly warm to Margaret who takes a little more time to adjust in the cold countryside however she eventually thaws out and warms to Andrew’s family. However when news of their fake engagement reaches the family they better be prepared for one hell of an almighty backlash…
I’m a big fan of romantic comedies ...

Advantages: brilliant night in with the girlies or boyfriend film Disadvantages: did drag on in the middle slightly
...lauging. It is one of the funiest Romcom's I have seen in a while and this was just my type of film. In part of the film I did want the story line to move a bit faster, but other than that it is a brillant easy watch. I'd suggest it being good for a girls night in or you could even get your boyfriend to watch it with you if you are lucky.
Brilliant acting from both Ryan Renalds and Sandra Bullock.
The happy couple stumble upon each other when Sandra ... ...you find out from watching the film as I don't want to spoil it. I love how Sandra Bullock always seems to find her feet playing a more masculine character, for example in Miss Congeniality, but then she changes and is more like us girlies than you will ever know. These types of films always remind me of the before and after shots of people having make overs, when you see how much they change when they have had their make over. This is so much like ...

Luckily enough I managed to get free tickets to the preview screening of "The Proposal", a film, which after seeing the trailers for, I really wanted to see, so getting there for free made it even more enjoyable!
The story centres around the main characters Margaret Tate played by Sandra Bullock and Andrew Paxton played by Ryan Reynolds. Margaret Tate is everyone's nightmare boss, a real tyrant, who everyone who works for her hates. A real hard woman, who seemingly has no feelings and certainly does not seem to care about how others feel. She is good at her job as the chief editor of a book publishing company, although cold hearted she gets the work done and does it well and for that is respected by her bosses. When Margaret's bosses tell her that there has been a problem...

Anne Fletcher is as pink as pink can be; in her first Director role. A truly feel-good factor movie with lots of hundreds and thousands sprinkled on top. Made by the cast of ?Hairspray? Fletcher had an easy life Directing this comedy; thanks to the slightly confused all the time stare of Sandra Bullock and the youthful and supremely good at brown-nosing Ryan Reynolds, whose Victoria Sponge performance complimented the professionalism of Bullock. ? ?The Proposal? has already a sequel lined-up. ? Yet more light sponge entertainment on the menu.
