The Prodigal Daughter is a sequel to Kane and Abel, a 1979 novel in which the story plays on the Biblical brothers Cain and Abel; the novel was an international success and reached #1 on New York Times Bestsellers list. This book, The Prodigal Daughter, followed in its footsteps and became one of Archer's best works. The novel opens by introducing the long-running feud between Kane and Abel to the readers. The feud then switches as coming from the perspective of the two men's children Florentyna (Abel's daughter) and Richard (William's son).
