♥Ugly duckling to Beautiful swan♥
Review of The Princess Diaries (Wide Screen) by zozo_692

Advantages: Fantastic film.
Disadvantages: Can't think of any.

...and gets great grades all the time, she's far from being the next "miss world" and lives in a tiny flat with hardly any decent stairs, well, life couldn't get any more interesting than that for Mia. She doesn't have much going for her really, she's the geek of the school, no way near popularity, no boyfriend, her flat is as tiny as my living room and well, her appearance, she's an ugly duckling; unplucked, thick eyebrows, thick bushy hair and glasses, ...
...she is told she is the next princess of Genovia, she is very stubborn and tells her mother she doesn't want to be a princess or a queen! Now who would want to do a silly thing like that? Of course, obvious as it is already, she agrees to become the next princess of Genovia, so let the film begin! (This is when the film "really" starts, and all the excitement seems to kick in.) Well, I don't want to give of half the storyline, although I probably ... Read review

A Cynics Nightmare
Review of The Princess Diaries (Wide Screen) by demonicsmurfette

Advantages: Lighhearted with a few comedic moments
Disadvantages: Unabsorbing and not for the cynical

...me very well bought me the video of The Princess Diaries. It’s a film that didn’t appeal to me when it was initially released at the cinema in 2001. Despite having Julie Andrews in it, an actress who has appeared in a lot of movies I like, I felt this film wasn’t targeted at my age group or at someone who doesn’t like the chick teen flick genre. Nevertheless, as it was a gift it had to be watched. Mia (Anne Hathaway) is a young, gawky, clumsy 15 ...
...She’s desperately in love with the most popular boy in school who is dating the most popular girl in school. She has a kooky mother that she is ashamed of. In other words, she was just like nearly every teenage girl in the country. That is until her Grandmother (Julie Andrews) arrives to inform her that since her father’s death, she is now the crown princess of Genovia. Yes, the ugly duckling is in fact royalty. Mia, being quite ‘unpolished’ in the ... Read review

♥Princess Diaries - Chick Flick Fun♥
Review of The Princess Diaries (Wide Screen) by Testarossa

Advantages: It's great if you like Chick Flick
Disadvantages: It's rubbish if you don't like Chick Flick

...fan of Chick Flick. When the Princess Diaries came out on DVD, she just had to have it. Amy has now got a DVD player in her bedroom, and for a few weeks, she has hidden herself away, watching this film over and over. Knowing that this film had taken over from her worn out Grease DVD, I had to find out what all the fuss is about. We snuggled up on her futon with a hot chocolate and some popcorn, and watched the film. ∞∞∞About the ...

The main characters are: Amelia Thermopolis (or Mia as she is known) [Played by Anne Hathaway] who is 15 years old (although Anne was 21 at the time the film was made). As If Being a Teenager Wasn't Bad Enough . . .
Review of The Princess Diaries (Wide Screen) by Pmshack99

Advantages: great characters, funny, watchable
Disadvantages: silly at times

...while she is sitting in the school fountain, and claims not to have noticed she was there, I laughed. When Mia then tells her friend Lily "Someone sat on me again" this illustrated just how much of a nonentity Mia, the star of "The Princess Diaries" feels. It isn't so much Mia is a geek, although with her huge frizzball hair, unflattering specs and out-of-control eyebrows ("If Brooke Shields married Groucho Marx their child would have your eyebrows!"), ...
...doesn't seem to "exist" in the eyes of the majority of the student body - unless she has done something embarrassing to bring her to their attention. Like having to run to puke in the middle of her part of a debate, for example ("Tell me, Mia. Is it true about your speech? Are you really speaking at the bulimic convention?") In spite of her moans to the contrary, however, Mia is perfectly happy with being invisible. So when a visit from her longlost ... Read review

The Princess Diaries INTRODUCTION STARS Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews (also in Mary Poppins, Sound of Music), Hector Elizondo (in Pretty Woman), Heather Matarazzo, Mandy Moore, Caroline Goodall, Robert Schwartzman STORY This is based on the novel by Meg Cabot, which I have not read but would now like to, and is described as a “heart-warming modern-day Cinderella story”. Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway) is a intelligent but terribly shy and clumsy teenager ...
...grandmother (Andrews) arrives and conveys the outrageous news that she is a real life princess – heir to the throne of Genovia. Furious, the reluctant royal agrees to take “Princess lessons” and make the biggest decision of her life – in three weeks. As a comedy, this film is ideal as it has as its base the comical transformation of Mia from pauper to princess whilst fending off a media storm, jealous schoolmates and enemies, and a plot to take over ... DVD Description

Teen actress Anne Hathaway gives an endearing performance in Garry Marshall's delightful Disney comedy, THE PRINCESS DIARIES. Assisted by such seasoned pros as Julie Andrews and Hector Elizondo (a Marshall regular), Hathaway shines here in her first major film role. She plays Mia, a high school misfit who has resigned herself to social invisibility. Mia and her best friend, Lilly (Heather Matarazzo), are outcasts. While Lilly relishes the role, Mia just wishes a cute popular boy she likes, Josh (Erik von Detten), would notice her. Mia's life changes dramatically when her grandmother (Andrews) contacts her and Mia finds out she is heir to the throne of Genovia, a small European country between France and Spain. The klutzy, socially awkward girl doesn't think she's up to the job, but she agrees to be coached in regal manners by her grandmother before deciding if she wants to become a princess. Marshall (PRETTY WOMAN) is clearly in his element directing this light, charming teen comedy. Andrews, perfectly cast as Queen Clarisse Renaldi, makes her character seem both imperious and caring. Hathaway's performance and the presence of teen pop star Mandy Moore assure that young girls, in particular, will enjoy the film.
