completely transfix you. How could it not? Bubbly Mia (Anne Hathaway), the American teenager who in the first film learned she was actually European royalty, finishes college and--whoosh!--heads off to Genovia, where she's given a closet full of fabulous clothes and jewelry in preparation to rule the kingdom under the tutelage of grandmother Julie Andrews. Throw in a horse and a volatile but innocent romantic attraction to the dreamy young stud (Chris Pine) who's also vying for the throne, and you have the kind of stuff that prepubescent girls rhapsodize about at slumber parties. Oh--and there's a slumber party here, too, featuring a bevy of cute, international young princesses mattress-surfing down a giant slide. Resistance is futile. For the rest of us, though, director Garry Marshall has managed to make his Laverne & Shirley days seem positively Shakespearean in comparison. The movie is precious, padded (two hours!), and pandering twaddle; Andrews, in her role as Queen Mother, is even shoehorned into a faux-hip-hop duet with Disney Channel favorite Raven (one of many, many grueling moments intended to sell the soundtrack). Then the film takes a maddening left turn three-quarters of the way into the plot and decides that, despite all the preceding consumption and connubial fantasies to the contrary, it's really about feminine emancipation. But don't worry--what causes you to smack your forehead in frustration will go right over the heads of its hypnotized target market. --Steve Wiecking

Advantages: A great film for girls and women of all ages Disadvantages: The first movie can be a bit slow to start with
...laugh over and over again, the first film sees Mia, a normal teenage girl finding out that her grandmother is not just a normal grandmother, she is in fact queen of Genovia and Mia is soon to be princess, but the main question is will she accept her royal role? The second film sees Mia grow up and is faced with the hard decision of finding a husband before she can become queen, will she find her perfect prince or will she fall for someone that she ... ...great, i thought the characters bonded well and the effects in the scences were great, i would reccomend this film as it made me laugh alot, it's a real feel good film, with a mixture of actors, of all ages playing the parts. I think the actors make the film come alive and seem real and the whole time you're wondering whats going to happen next and what decisions will be made. Deffinately a great film and funny too. ...

Advantages: fun for all the family Disadvantages: none
Excellent dvd that combines both the first and second Princess Diaries. Well worth a watch one for the whole family and kids of any age. Girls especially will love this film as it features all the must have elements comedy, fashion and make up, romance and good looking boys/men, so one for the mums too! Both of these films are charming starring Ann Hathaway who makes an excellent Princess Mia and Julie Andrews as the Queen of Genovia (Andrews is ...

Advantages: Good price for the 2 dvds Disadvantages: you can't watch them at the same time
...this film, i feel the 1st dvd is better than the second, both sets are very funny. The story line is very good and not like any other films, it has a mixture of emotions through out the film. My sisters also love the films and they are aged between 10 to 16. If you haven't seen it i recommend you do, i have probably watched it about 6 times and i still love it! the reson why i would say the second film isn't as strong as the first one is because ...

Advantages: Fairytale story of poor to princess, every girls dream, also good comedy value Disadvantages: seem to have heard the story line before, very similar to all other modern cinderella stories.
The first movie begins very well, showing a young girl who wishes to have it all, as usual. The story line is somewhat let down by her never knowing her father or that he was a prince and has recently died meaning that she was next in line to the throne of Genovia. This is of course slightly far fetched for us adults but they had to get her to turn into a princess some how and i'm sure children would love the idea, and will soon be asking if they ... ...In this film the young girl (Mia) goes through it all, heart ache, falling out with her best friends, falling out and reuniting with her mother and attempting to become a princess. There was a lovley feel good factor to this film and one of my most favourite cinderella stories. ...
