The Piano is a haunting and touching film, concerning the move to New Zealand of a Scottish woman and her daughter to be married against her will to a profiteerer. The cinematography is superb, and Holly Hunter and Sam Neill put in a good performance in the roles of man and wife. Perhaps the best performance comes from young Anna Paquin as the girl, who won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role. The soundtrack, by Michael Nyman is a joy to listen to and really sets the tone for the film, and the cinematography of the New Zealand landscape is breathtaking. Definitely one to watch in both widescreen and surround sound. Available in VHS widescreen adn pan and scan, and on DVD widescreen.

A haunting film indeed. I loved it. Maureen

I thought this was a great film. It's funny how several of these Ops seem to find it 'boring' - because it kept my attention the whole way through!! I guess it depends on what you like! Glad you wrote about it anyway.
