mel gibsons controversial account of the last 12 hours of christ is a cinematic experience unlike any other christ film before it.The movie plays at times like a horror film, with haunting imagery of a blackclad satan ,a judas in fear of children turning into demons and skies filling with darkness. The impact of this style is that it leaves the viewer gripped by the visuals. But is the film passionate about the spiritual side of jesus or just an excuse to show the pain he went through in his death. The answer is both, for whilst the pain is shown in graphic and very realistic form,it is undercut with flashbacks to jesus life which quietly show his spiritual power. The moments of him saving mary magndale from being lynched,of eating with his discplies are sensitive moments of passion.Gibson has proved once again that in portraying realistic violence on cellouid he is a mastercraftsmen witness the oscar winning braveheart.Though there are times in the passion when he seems to linger too long on the beatings and blood .Sometimes what u do not see,can create more impact.
