...book written by Erich Kästner. The original was a Disney film directed by David swift. Hayley Mills played the twins, Maureen O'Hara the mother and Brian Keith played the father. Because of the lack of technology at the time, most of it was filmed with body doubles when the 'twins' were needed in shots together. In the original, 1 twin lives in LA and the other in Chicago.
The remake is the film I will concentrate on. It is also Disney but directed ... ...and Freaky Friday) who plays the twins Hallie and Annie. Dennis Quaid plays the dad and Natasha Richardson plays the mother.

Advantages: Good clean family entertainment, no sex, no violence Disadvantages: child actors!!
Let's Get together and compare the two films.....Parent Trap l998 and the Original 1961 version which I saw as a child.
Hayley Mills starred in the 1961 version playing her part charismatically, albeit whilst wearing a horrendous wig throughout most of the film. The parents here are Maureen O'Hara as mum Maggie living with twin one in Boston New England and Brian Keith playing Mitch the father who lives with twin two on a magnificent ranch in California. ... ...efforts are thwarted however with the realisation that Mitch is about to remarry the local golddigger Vicki. The twins do all they can to sabotage the relationship and without spoiling the plot too much......I can tell you that all's well that ends well.
The l998 version follows much along the same lines except that in this case the father owns a Californian Vineyard and the mother lives in London, England. The girls here are ll and are played by ...

...with her father in California. The two had been separated at birth when the parents divorced. At the end of the Summer Camp Annie went to California and Hallie went to London. The two girls scheme to bring their parents back together and in the process also stop their father marrying the money grabbing Meredith Blake. The girls are played brilliantly by Lindsay Lohan and it is filmed so well that it is easy to believe that there really are twins. ... ...This is not the type of film that I would normally watch, but my wife was watching it whilst I was reading. Before long I had put down the newspaper and become engrossed in this film. It is very well made. Of course a lot of it is very predictable, but it is put together in a very entertaining and funny way. The film is advertised as a children’s movie, but this shouldn’t stop adults watching it as there are a few lessons here from the ...

...I am writing my review on the first made "ParentTrap" that was made in 1961 with Hayley Mills (Played in Pollyanna), it was redone in 1998 and was played by Lindsay Lohan but the original is the best one by far.
About the film
Its about twin girls who meet unexpectedly for the first time at a summer camp, Sharon McKendick is a well brought up girl (quite posh) who was brought up with her mother, where as Susan Evers is more laid back and was brought up by her dad. The girls take an instant dislike to each other at the camp and are soon at each other throats with the help of their friends, the staff at the camp notice the tension and make them share an accommodation together, it is there that they soon discover that they are in fact twins and was separated at birth. They are determined to never be separated again and make...

...It's not often I will outright call a film bad. But this is terrible.
As a fan of Lohan since "ParentTrap" I bought this DVD on a whim, hoping it would be as good as other Lohan films such as Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. I'm not sure when I've been so disappointed.
This film is weak in characters, plot, dialogue and quite possibly every aspect down to the costume and hair styles! I sat through as much of it as I could, not sure whether I could stand to watch any more, apparently my inner conscience became unconscious, and I fell asleep. When I did decide to watch the end, I wasn't surprised to see the film had an ultimately bad ending when it had started out so poorly.
One of the worst parts of this film had to be the fake flowers and use of computer animation, which just made the film appear childish even if it is aimed at children...

...and directed by Nancy Meyers. One of the DVD extras is a very interesting commentary by her which is definitely worth watching. She has also written and directed 'The ParentTrap' and has directed 'What Women Want' among others.
The other main DVD extra is a behind the scenes look which is quite entertaining in it's own way.
So overall this is a very entertaining escapist sort of film that is great for watching on a cold winter night with a nice glass of wine and a box of tissues. It's probably more of a woman's film, although having said that, my husband did watch it with me and enjoyed it in his own way!
At the moment it can be bought very cheaply on Amazon for only £3.98 which I think is an absolute bargain!...
