'The One' really is the film to watch right now. Starring Jet Li, and Delroy Lindo, with superb direction by James Wong, this film pushes the boundaries in martial arts skills, Special FX, and science fiction all at once.
There are many universes, collectively called the multiverse, and within each universe is another version of yourself, they look like you, sound like you, they are you, each of you shares the same essence, and if one of you dies, your essence is divided between the remaining you's.
Jet Li plays a Multiverse Police Officer, who's duty is to prevent illegal travel between the universes, one day whilst policing the multiverse he unnavoidably has to kill another version of himself, from then on realising that he gets stronger everytime he kills another one of himself, he embarks on an insane journey to become 'The One' the only version of himself left in the multiverse, he can only do that by killing every other version of himself.
Whilst being chased throughout the multiverse by his ex multiverse police partener and a rookie, he manages to kill all but one other of himself, who also happens to work in law enforcement, and he too has also noticed how strong he is getting, but the question is, will the multiverse police stop him, or will his other self stop him?, will either of the two ever be the one?, and what will happen if they do?.
The special FX mixed with martial arts in this movie spark an amazing outcome, it is a brilliantly thought out film, we get to see Jet Li as both good guys and bad guys, which is quite weird but also very interesting at the same time. When they travel through the multiverse they kind of molecularly dispurse, and they really look in pain too, wouldn't you be if your molecules separated?, also what really looks good is when the two are fighting, they are so fast, and so strong, they break or bend solid metal with just their fists, also some of their virtually impossible moves are so impressive, its as good as 'The Matrix' for the FX in that way.
The good and the bad Jet Li's are like ying and yang in this movie, one has smooth, confident and calm moves, and the other has fast, confident and angry moves making the whole thing intiguing, and suspensefull, its not a horror but you'll still be on the edge of your seat.
I really enjoyed this film and would recommend it to anyone.
