Advantages: Interesting concept - supernatural feel to it. Disadvantages: Drags halfway.
...intertwining at unsettling intervals with the number nine looming menacingly in all their lives.
'The Nines', as you will already have guessed after seeing that the actors play different roles, is all about the same characters regardless that they possess different names, jobs and lives. You could say, in a way, that all these lives are being played out at the same time. The interesting part is that these lives intertwine and overlap, leaving the ... ...Unable to tell you what the story is about without giving the plot away, suffice it to say that 'The Nines' is a good mixture of sci-fi and fantasy, and although it may appear at times to be 'supernatural'… it isn't.
The movie is divided into three parts with the main actors taking on different roles in each part. The first part is about an actor who is under house arrest after having unintentionally set fire to his ex's house. Unable to leave the ...

...and be entertained without having to on some level contribute to the movie. You could say to some degree that this is a very interactive movie that not only needs you to assemble the pieces but to find your own answers to some of the less formulated aspects of the story. Do I think The Nines is a good movie? Yes it's a good film, I love the challenge of it, I enjoyed being driven to love it and hate it all at once. The downside of the movie is that I personally would never watch it again, it's one of those movies that's effects can only be felt once, without that final sensation the movie won't have the same impact again.
The Nines is released on DVD on the 31st March 2008, the DVD has no special features other than the trailer to promote the film.

Advantages: LIVE DVD Disadvantages: Not Clear Enough
...Being probably with biggest fan (tattoo and all) of Trent Reznors talents I have to say that this is a gripping and exhillerating DVD. It has 18 mind-blowing tracksto chose from and the choice of a background commentary.
As a disadvantage I put that its not clear enough, by this I mean that you cannot really see the band members, including trent Reznor, very often due to the dark stage and strobe lighting. There are however visuals on screens behind the stage which keep the eyes pleased. But to be honest I would have liked to see Trent Reznor just a little more.
The album/DVD holds my personal favourite tune 'Hurt' which is also performed by the still beloved Johnny Cash. Nine Inch Nails' version is obviously a lot more industrial and metal but you still get the full emotion.
And All That Could Have Been DVD is filmed live from...

DVD Description
THE NINES is a complex, thought-provoking work divided into three sections and featuring the same actors playing different roles, with the number nine always lurking in the background. In 'The Prisoner,' Ryan Reynolds plays Gary, a TV star who has been placed under house arrest after going crazy because his girlfriend dumped him. He is watched closely by Margaret, a publicist who seems to know more than she is letting on, and by neighbour Sarah, who is instantly attracted to him. In 'Reality Television' Reynolds is a director named Gavin who is shooting a TV pilot starring McCarthy, but he's getting mixed signals from studio executive Susan, all while being filmed for a television reality program. And in 'Knowing', Reynolds is Gabriel, the character in the TV pilot that Gavin was shooting, with McCarthy playing his wife, Mary, and Davis as a mysterious stranger deciding whether she should help the family, whose car has broken down on a deserted mountain. Certain minute elements repeat in each part, giving clues as to what it's all really about as fantasy and reality intertwine.

Review: There are plenty of surprises in this amusing Donnie Darko-ish metaphysical thriller, but watching Van Wilder and Blade: Trinity star Ryan Reynolds flex some previously hidden acting chops is the main one (Daily Telegraph, 15/02/2008)
An intriguing post-modern take on TV, film and gaming culture, with a revelatory performance from the former Van Wilder (Empire, 15/02/2008)
An offbeat, unpredictable story that plays out in parallel universes (Hollywood Reporter, 15/02/2008)
Bright and vicious, desperate and cruel, the characters of the first two stories pop with a kind of nihilistic joie de vivre that makes you want to hug them and kill them at once (Los Angeles Times, 15/02/2008)
The Nines is a philosophical mind teaser with satirical fangs (New York Times, 15/02/2008)
The film puts a delightful spin on that profound and solipsistic idea that we are the godlike inventors, and moral arbitrators, of our own little worlds. A gem (The Times, 15/02/2008)
There's more than enough intelligence, intrigue and performance dazzle to make this an adventuresome gizmo for grownups (Variety, 15/02/2008)
