Review: A vehicle for Simon Callow shows handsomely why he is one of our greatest actors. (The Financial Times, )
Callow seems to be possessed by the characters in a cornucopia of identity crises (The Independent, )
Advantages: Fast paced, funny, good quality television Disadvantages: No rewatch value
...obvious conclusion.
Once again, Eccleston and Piper both show strength in their characters, but the episode still serves as an obligatory follow up from the pilot, focusing on Rose's homesickness and uncertainty about travelling with a cold, nameless man, with reasonable realism.
Episode 3: The Unquiet Dead
Having shown her the future, the Doctor makes Rose's next TARDIS trip a journey to the past, namely to 1860, Naples, or, as it turns out, 1869 Cardiff.
As ever, upon arrival, the Doctor and Rose discover trouble at a local funeral home: the dead are walking, possessed by ghostly creatures made of gas called the Gelth, brought to Cardiff by a rift in time and space. Advantages: Fills your heart with slightly sycophantic warmth Disadvantages: Michael Caine sings
...It's a well-worn yet much-loved story: Ebinezer Scrooge is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future and, during the spectres' visits, he changes from the selfish individual his name dictates to a warm and generous neighbour-to-all.
Except that Jim Henson's Muppets are in this version of Dickens' famous tale.
Whether you're a fan of Kermit and his gang or not, the Muppets' Christmas Carol is a heart-warming and enjoyable adaptation of the classic story and helps introduce a touch of culture to the younger generation. While some adults may find the Muppets a little sickly these days, the kids still love them and my two quickly ensconsed themselves in front of the TV - not that it's very hard to encourage them to do that, you understand.
The tale stays true to CharlesDickens' original plot: Ebinezer Scrooge...

Advantages: A wonderful adaption of a classic story Disadvantages: A bit pricey, but worth it for fans
...I absolutely loved CharlesDickens Bleak House when it was shown on tv, so was very excited when i bought the dvd so i could watch it all in one go! This 3disc edition is not like the specialedition, it does not have any extras (which would've been nice), but the episodes themselves are entertainment enough. The fold out card dvd case displays all three discs with a montage of characters behind the clear plastic holders. the overall design is inkeeping with the series and provides a good sense of its style, so A+ for that.
You cannot blink once without a recognisable face popping up in each scene...usually i'm not too keen on programmes that simply cram in as many famous actors just to get ratings, however, each character in BBCs Bleak House is portrayed so memorably and so vividly its hard for anyone to complain. The most noted...
