The Mutant Chronicles.

It came from space………
It came to change man into mutants…..
A war followed and was just about won.
The machine was buried in the earth so it could do no more harm and there it waits……to be discovered.

The year is 2707 and four corporations rule the whole world and battle each other endlessly.

The movie begins with trench warfare and even though set in the future it clearly depicts that war never changes no matter what the time period. The fighting is Gruesome, pointless and with lots of carnage and death. Poison gas bombs, huge artillery and hand to hand combat. The fighting is fierce and then the 'Machine 'is found.
A portal opens and the mutants begin to escape, suddenly the soldiers and not fighting each other they're fighting for their lives. The mutants have only one objective to butcher anything that isn't a mutant and this they do very efficiently.
You are still only 13 minutes into the movie!

The start of the movie is at night and with the flashes from the artillery and gun fire it is difficult at times to see exactly what is going on. This is, I suppose, meant to add to the tension but rather it makes you squint to try and understand what is happening.

These initial mutants look like your average zombies, only with really bad attitudes.

The dead bodies and the dying soldier are dragged away and put into the machine where they are converted into vile Necromutants to do the bidding of the machine.

The Earth is considered lost and humans begin to flee to other planets leaving behind millions to be lost and sacrificed to the machine.

Ron Perlman (from Hellboy) plays Brother Samuel who wishes to fulfil the mutant chronicles. A small force must go down into the earth and take the fight directly to the machine inside its own insidious layer.
Into the heart of darkness.

John Malkovich also stars and gives a good performance as father Constantine but he is not long in the movie.

The film from this point on still has an hour to go and it is a so so sci-fi horror. Predictable at times with a kind of 'Night of the living dead' meets '28 Days'.
The ending is predictable; you can already guess what happens.

The acting is not the best and the script is a bit slow.

My biggest gripe? Filmed far too much in darkness!

It was an ok movie but only just about ok.

Greg.
