a week and a half ago i had never even heard of the mighty boosh. so when i trundled upto oxford to see my friend, to be greeted by, hope you don't mind....but .....the mighty boosh are doing a dvd signing in one of the book shops i REALLY want to go. still having no clue who they were i agreed and a couple of hours later we were standing in the queue waiting for god knows who in the middle of god knows where.

whilst standing in the queue i found out that they had originally been doing radio and stage shows before making a television series for BBC3, no wonder i'd never heard of them. later whilst my friend was nearly having a small fit, something along the lines of ' i can't tell them that i fancy them i really can't', i decided that i may as well buy the dvd, just to see what it was all about, and at £15.99 (shockingly expensive for a poor student like myself), maybe not the wisest thing to do but i trusted my friends judgement.

couple of days later i finally got round to watching the dvd, i will admit, at firsti think my reaction was 'oh no, amy why the hell did you by this??' it was from what i could work out completely ridiculous, but the longer i kept watching it the more i got drawn in.
Basically the mighty boosh is set in a magical zoo, the zoo-niverse, run by bob fossil (rich fulcher) and revolves around 2 central characters howard moon (julian barratt) and vince noir (noel fielding) two of the zoo keepers.

Howard thinks rather highly of himself, in the sense that he believe he is/ could be....a boxer, a poet, a top jazz musician and a novelist amongst other things. Vince on the other hand can talk to the animals and is obsessed with his hair, and throughout the various episodes is forever having to rescue howard from mortal peril (death by black frost, monkey hell or the spirit of jazz) as howard seems to think he can go off and save the world single handedly, in order to impress mrs gideon, who doesn't even know he exists.

this dvd comes with 2 disks.

disk one contains episodes one to six

1. Killeroo - howard is conned into having a boxing match with a kangeroo, leavingvince in charge of training and ultimately saving him.

2.Mutants - dixon bainbridge (the owner of the zoo decides that normal animals are old fashioned/ boring and so combines the zoos animals to create some weird and wonderful creatures.

3. Bollo - Howard is accidently taken to monkey hell after there is a mix up by the grim reaper between bollo and himself, vince has to venture into the afterword t otry and save him.

4 Tundra - after dixon bainbridge returns from the tundra, still not having found the egg of mantubi, howard and vince (with the help of gary numan) set off to find it and somehow manage to encounter a polar bear and the evil black frost.

5. Jungle - howard ventures in to the restrited jungle section of the zoo in order to find the owner of the zoo, his hero and mentor, before the zoo is sold.

6. Charlie - whilst howard comes up with a winning sentence for the beginning of his novel, vince's random drivel about a peice of chewing gum is about to get published. howard, understandebly is not best pleased.

disc 2 contains eliodes 7 and 8 as well asthe bonus features

7. Electro - vince joins a band whilst howard battles it out against the spirit of jazz.

8. Hitcher - whilst transfering one of the animals the boys separate and become lost in the wood, only to be discovered by a hitcher, a rather strange green man with a massive thumb.

the extras are so-so, i thought the commentry of the episodes was really funny, even if it was completely off the subject!! but the rest seem to just consist of out - takes and phots, which once you've seen a few are pretty much the same.

overall they are increadibly funny, and they come out with some unforgetable lines, you can guarentee they will suddenly jump into song and dance in almost every episode, some of the costumes are just very slightly strange, and alot of them seem to be made of polos....??

this may not be to everyones taste but i would still reccommed it!
