The Mighty Boosh follows the surreal adventures of Zookeepers Howard Moon (Julian Barratt) and Vince Noir (Noel Fielding.)
Series one is in my opinion, the best of the three, focusing mostly on the complex love\hate relationship between Howard and Vince, particularly the banter between them, rather than bizarre characters found mostly in the second series, or numerous references to indie-culture in the third.
Thankfully, I was one of the few who discovered this comedy gem prior to the huge indie and emo fanbase who just like how pretty Noel Fielding is.
The show is definitely the most surreal sitcom around, comparable in places to early Reeves and Mortimer. Although The Boosh is not often laugh-out-loud funny, it seems to become more amusing the more times you watch or think about it, especially series one, as it seems to have a great deal more well-layered two-way dialogue, the main reason that it is worth owning on DVD, moreso than than two or three.
There are a fantastic array of characters in the show, most often played by Barratt or Fielding, in addition to their main roles as Howard and Vince.
The show is arguably formulaic, but the formula still works fantastically well. Howard and Vince accidentally manage to get in some trouble, usually involving a strange supernatural character or two, (such as Tommy Nooka, a man whose calcium deficiency has caused his head to transform into cheesy sphere, or the king of Monkey Hell, who is self-conscious about his unmanageable hair.) and then the two must be bailed out by the enigmatic Shaman -- Naboo (Mike Fielding.)
This DVD contains the following episodes: 1. Killeroo 2. Mutants 3. Bollo 4. Tundra 5. Jungle 6. Charlie 7. Electro 8. Hitcher
Also contains the following Extras:
Inside The Zooniverse History Of The Boosh Boosh Music Outtakes Picture Gallery Commentary On Bollo And Tundra And Electro And Hitcher With Julian Barratt Noel Fielding And Rich Fulcher
The Extras are not really worth looking at, unless you're a massive fan of the series.
Summary: A fantastic series for fans of surrealist humour.
