A family move to a desolate farmhouse to start a new life together after their teenage daughter has been involved with the wrong crowd in their previous home. The young son has been involved in a car accident and doesn't speak as he has been traumatised. The mother and father bicker throughout the film as they are unsure of their decision to up-and-move and have no clue how to run a farm…
Within a day the toddler son starts behaving strangely as he can see something or someone in the house and the others cannot see this. The teenage daughter then starts seeing violent ghostly figures; however, no one believes her. She follows the toddler around in the hope that he will lead her to the ghosts hiding place, and eventually speak and help her convince the parents…
A travelling farm hand arrives at the house to help with the crop of sunflowers that they have put all their savings into growing. The parents leave late at night and the ghosts terrorise the daughter in their absence. If I was her I would be hitch hiking out of there!
There are constantly crows landing or swooping over the house and this adds to the impression that this is an evil place. There is a door that is always locked leading to the cellar, a barn full of scary implements, and a strange stain on the bedroom wall that keeps reappearing after being cleaned off…
This film definitely borrows/steals from the horror genre, from The Grudge, the Others, the Birds, Amityville Horror and Poltergeist to name a few. However, the acting is alright and there is a twist at the end that should satisfy the viewer. The part of the teenage daughter Jess, played by Kirsten Stewart, is believable and she does the job well. The tension also mounts well in the first hour of this film with interesting camera angles and dramatic score.
This is a PG-13 that makes it a good date movie as it has moments that make you jump, but is not overly scary or complicated. I would only watch this the once but would rate it as 3/5 and recommend it.

...horror,it takes you back to the good old days when you jumped out of your skin a few times.
Its a simple but good story, when a family are brutally murdered and a new family move in years later. Its very creepy and unnerving and the ghosts of the dead family are scary as hell, the acting in the film is not brilliant but you don't really think of that at the time, but i must admit the young boy in the film who sees the dead family haunting the house ... ...good job with him.
There are some great moments in this film when i was on the edge of my seat and could not move for even a hand full of popcorn, so if i were you i would get yourself down to the nearest outlet and buy this movie. ...

I am reviewing it as a film only, skipping extra dvd contents. Hopefully it's a good enough review as I am not very good with reviewing movies.
The Plot
"The Messenger 2 : The Scarecrow" plot revolves on a man named John Rollins and his family. John is just a simple farmer from North Dakota who has a loving wife Mary and two children Lindsey and Michael. The farm is not doing well, the crops are dying, invested with crows and to make it worst, he's in a lot of debt. However, his family supports him in this difficult times, and as a man he wants to be strong for his family when they need him.
One day when John was tidying up the barn, he accidentally found a walled hidden room behind the tools rack. In there he found this scary and hideous looking scarecrow wrapped in a sack. The minute his son Michael saw it ...
capable direction from the Pang brothers and some half-way decent turns, ?The Messengers? cannot rise above the mediocrity of the writing. Without an ounce of originality in the script, there is little that either the actors or directors can do to make this horror movie-by-numbers feel or look innovative. If you?re a horror fan, you?ll have seen it all before and if not, then this won?t be the film to convert you. ...
Advantages: good characters, good plot Disadvantages: -
I felt it was time to get back to watching horror movies again and I stumbled across this film The Messengers. After seeing the trailer it seemed like a typical horror movie plot but however I had heard really good things about this film and decided to persevere. The cast didn?t seem to be too well known but I usually find horror movies never really do have a really famous cast. This film was released in the cinema in April and is released on DVD in August which isn?t too far away.
This film begins with the Solomon family moving from Chicago to a farm house in North Dakota. The family don?t really get on well as the daughter Jess (Kristen Stewart) got into a car accident, suspending her license and causing the little brother Ben to end up in hospital never having spoken since. The amount of money it cost the family meant they had to ...

DVD Description
Twin filmmakers Danny and Oxide Pang's creepy 2003 feature THE EYE earned them enough kudos to make the leap to Hollywood, and their first effort is the creepy chiller THE MESSENGERS. A Chicago-based family comprised of Roy (Dylan McDermott), his wife, Denise (Penelope Ann Miller), their teenage daughter, Jess (Kristen Stewart), and young son, Ben (played by twins Evan and Theodore Turner) try to put the hard times behind them with a move to a picturesque farmhouse in North Dakota. Jess quickly becomes convinced that the house is haunted after some peculiar occurrences while she's alone there with young Ben. But Ben can't articulate what he's seen, and Jess's story is met with scepticism by her parents. It soon becomes apparent that past family tensions are slowly boiling to the surface. Meanwhile, the ghosts keep coming, and the Pang brothers never keep their audience waiting for long before another nerve-jangling scene shudders into view. But as the ghosts torment their new residents, Jess does a little research on the old farmhouse and discovers a few secrets that may just hold the key to why this is all happening. Packed full of CGI effects and a few moments that may cause a jump or two, THE MESSENGERS is a horror movie aimed at a young audience and not horror aficionados, as indicated by its certification.
