There was, for a brief period a time, horror movies that touched upon more than just the visceral terrors of gore that infect so many modern genre films. This period gave us a number of what were to become classic horrors, The Omen, The Exorcist and in my humble opinion The Medusa Touch. While not as well known or written about as the former, The Medusa Touch sits comfortably in their company, as it deals with more than just the terror of the central story, a man who can will destruction, but in part also addresses issues of guilt and responsibility and the existence of God in a seemingly Godless world. But despite all its nods to worthiness, The Medusa Touch succeeds in being a damn good romp. Starring Richard Burton (in a tour de force performance) and Lee Remick, the story centres around the attempted murder of John Morlar a writer of some renown and the investigation that is to follow. This 'special edition' version of the DVD offers a short behind the scenes clips of the Cathedral scenes but is a little disappointing for its lack of depth. The movie deserves a more detailed reanalysis.
