Well the Millennium is all about the future and so is this movie. Well at least the concepts behind it are. You see at first the film is set in the present, but as you find out things are not always as they seem. The fact is that in reality what you see is not what you actually get.
You see the world is a hoax, as I always suspected it is all just a big cover up, a ploy to deceive us into thinking this is reality… Ok so I got a little carried away, but that's just me. So you get the picture or a vague outline of what it is. The question that really has to be asked is why? It's that plain and simple.
Well you see all of the other film ideas have been done to death and I suppose this film opens up a whole new concept. That concept being that the world no longer exists, and that the human-race are nothing but a crop to feed the all-powerful machines. Well it worked for me…
I read have read reviews that say this film is over rated and all the hype was for nothing, but I really wonder if those people when into the movie with an open mind. I genuinely believe that this is one of the best future action thrillers made of recent times. The fact that the concept that makes up this film has never really been explored was what made the film work for me.
Enough of this though. What exactly is the film about? Well it's about a man, a respectable worker by day, and an underground hacker by night who is constantly looking for something or someone. He seems to know that there is something not quite right about the world he likes in. This is where the world of possibilities is opened up. You see reality becomes merged with science fiction and what you end up with is the Matrix. A world controlled by machines that feed off of the life source of the humans. It may seem a little far-fetched, but just take a minute and think about it…
For all we know this is reality and the writers have hit the nail right on the head. I don't mean to freak you out, but you have got to admit that this concept could easily bring up a whole load of "what ifs". I know this is only a film at the end of the day, and that films aren't real, but who cares. If you can't let your mind wander once in a while there the world would be very dull indeed.
So what else is there? Well the special effects are second to none. You can really see and appreciate that a lot of time, money, and effort went into these in an attempt to bring the effects to life. Never before had I seem such visuals and I believe that many awards we're won because of them. Deservedly so in my opinion they are completely flawless. As well as the eye candy there is a pumping rock/metal soundtrack that really does the film justice. The surround sound effects are absolutely stunning. Dolby Digital has been used to the max to bring you a complete aural explosion. If you didn't see this at a cinema with Dolby Digital then you really missed out.
So overall I think that this film totally rocks and you should definitely watch it. Remember seeing is believing, well almost…

Review of The Matrix (DVD)
Advantages: Good film, plenty of action, some amazing special effects. Disadvantages: No quality extras, some poor special effects, feels like a money grabbing exercise.
Advantages: Eye-popping visuals, much more smoother plot, and one of the best car chases I've ever seen Disadvantages: Some people may think its more recycled than reloaded
