well here we have it, all three matrix movies in one handy boxset. you get: the matrix the matrix reloaded the matrix revolutions
first of all let me write a brief summary of the trilogy and list the main actors in these movies. we have: keanu reeves as neo carrie-ann moss as trinity laurence fishburne as morpheus hugo weaving as agent smith
what is the matrix? the matrix is described in the movie as a computer generated dream world designed by machines (which have ultimately taken over the world) in order to stop the humans whom are plugged into this dream world from discovering that all they are meant to be is fuel, 'grown' by the machines for their machine empire to feed on.
the movies follow the charactor neo through both reality i.e the real world and the matrix. neo learns that he is a kind of messiah to the remaining humans who have eluded the machines and managed to survive in an underground city known as zion. he discovers the truth that he has been living in a fake reality and through learning of this he is able to bend the rules of the matrix world and perform certain feats that would be considered impossible in the real world. this includes being able to dodge speeding bullets and eventually and literally being able to stop bullets dead. the first film is a journey of discovery for neo, he has to take in alot, and the film centres around this aswell as introducing the menacing agents who are programs in the matrix designed to stop the 'freed' humans from running around in the matrix upsetting the balance of reality and freeing more people from the matrix. the main agent is smith who is relentless in trying to stop neo in his exploits through most of the movie. the first movie ends with neo truely believing that he is in fact 'the one' which brings us onto reloaded.
reloaded introduces more characters both good and bad in the matrix as well as in the real world namely niobe played by jada pinkett-smith. this film features more action and fight scenes and with the explaining of what the matrix is, done mostly in the first film it leaves room for showing off the vastness of the matrix and very memorable action scenes. this second installment ends with a 'to be concluded' style ending which brings us onto the final film in the trilogy. revolutions kicks off where reloaded ended and quite notably features alot more scenes set in the real world rather than the matrix. at this point neo must try and stop smith who has gone corupt in the matrix and is ultimatley bringing about the end of the matrix world for good. without spoiling the film too much we end with the mother of all man vs machine battles with the machines breaching the walls of zion and the humans ironically using mostly machines of their own aswell aswell as good old fasioned courage and bravery to try and stop the machines from bringing about the extermination of zion and the free human race. neo and smith have there final battle together inside the matrix to put an end to chaos inside the matrix.
what we have is an amazing spectacle of movies here with dazzling stunts and effects which i feel will leave you witnessing a new type of sci-fi film.
i feel the only thing to kind of let the boxset down is the lack of special features, there is a few trailers and some filmographys but nothing to shout home about.however, this does by no means at all tarnish the amazing and exciting feeling you get from watching this awesome trilogy.
a must for any dvd collection.
