Like the groundbreaking Star Wars, The Matrix showcases a unique visual style, one the Wachowskis achieved through an array of techniques and digital effects, some never before seen in mainstream Hollywood films. Although computer morphing technology had been used before in The Abyss and Terminator 2, the Wachowskis were the first to use "bullet time", a time-bending digital effect that utilises both computer-generated imagery and still photography. The sequel The Matrix Reloaded showcased that visual style to further effect, with The Matrix Revolutions completing the trilogy. DVD Description The first film is a complex story that aspires to mythology, focusing on a computer hacker named Neo (Keanu Reeves) who searches for the truth behind the mysterious force known as the Matrix. He finds his answer with a group of strangers led by the charismatic Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). What they encounter in confronting that truth makes for a lightning-paced, eye-popping thrill ride of a movie. The Matrix is packed with stunning fight scenes (choreographed by accomplished Hong Kong director Yuen Wo-Ping), astonishing visual effects, quotable lines, and a memorable supporting cast (led by Carrie-Anne Moss, in her first major Hollywood film). The Matrix Reloaded sequel delivers added amounts of everything that the first film had, with the exception of surprises. We see more of the "real world" in the last human city of Zion and we go back to the 1999-look urban virtual reality of the Matrix for more encounters with artificially intelligent baddies and--the real reason you're watchingÂ?there are a lot more martial arts superheroics. This is just part one of a story that spans two sequels, with the final film of the trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions, required to tie up the story and sort out a great deal of plot complexity.

Advantages: great acting, great soundtrack Disadvantages: 3 is two to many
I have to admit The Matrix is not really my kind of film, this was a present I bought for my hubby last year and he loves it. I paid £29.99 from play.com and it was worth every penny. You can get it much cheaper on ebay now but hey it's a year on. I'm not a big sci fi fan but I don't mind The Matrix, I like the sound track, I like Laurence Fishburne, and I like agent Smith, but for me the story is a little far fetched. Any way, enough of my likes ... ...brilliant in these films, all the characters are strong and the actors play them perfectly. Keanu shaved his head, vomited and had sex scenes. Fishburne, is shot at, beaten up, happy, sad and dumfounded. Everything is done perfectly. This is the 3 DVD Matrix box set. first of all let me write a brief summary of the trilogy and list the main actors in these movies.
we have:

carrie-ann moss as trinity laurence fishburne as morpheus hugo weaving as agent smith what is the matrix?
the matrix is described in the movie as a computer generated dream world designed by machines (which have ultimately taken over the world) in order to ... ...be is fuel, 'grown' by the machines for their machine empire to feed on.
the movies follow the charactor neo through both reality i.e the real world and the matrix. neo learns that he is a kind of messiah to the remaining humans who have eluded the machines and managed to survive in an underground city known as zion.
he discovers the truth that he has been living in a fake reality and through learning of this he is able to bend the rules of the ...

Right, the matrix is one of the best films i have ever watched. It has some excellent acting from all the big names, and all the special effects are awesome. It has a brilliant storyline in the first film and Keanu Reeves plays Neo really well. This is definetely a must see film, but now we come to the Matrix Reloaded, and the final one, Matrix Revoltuions. I didn\'t really get what was happening in these films, the story changed and you get lost ...

Advantages: All together in a value for money package Disadvantages: Reloaded and Revolutions
...DVD sale. I had seen The Matrix when it 1st came out and was blown away by the special effects. As I was and still am going the through a Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith), phase I could not resist.
I do not intend to go through the whole plot as we all know what happens by now. Matrix, fantastic film. Goes down with Reloaded and hits rock bottom with Revolutions.
I do not regret buying this as it worked out as cheap as buying The Matrix alone. Reloaded ... ...to Zion and the special effects are even better. Revolutions, well...features the newer characters we are not as bothered about, seen it all before quality to the special effects and the ending especially around the creator theme is contrived, long winded, pretentious and boring.
If you want The Matrix may as well buy this as it is 3 for the price of one, but must warn you it does go downhill. Extras not too good but I am not that bothered about ...

when i first saw the first installment of the trilogy THE MATRIX
it just blew me away with the story line and the special effects.
if you have never seen the movie it centres around one man NEO(keanu reeves)as he discovers he has been living in a giant computer animated dream world and he and the rest of the human race are being used as an energy source and he discovers he could possibly be the one to free the humans from the machines grips.
then ... ...and his quest to become the ONE
and save the human race and again the second installment like the first delivers another batch of super special effects.
the third and final installment sees the demise of the machines
and an awesome fight scene between the humans and machines as the humans defend their home zion.
a true masterpiece by the wachowski brothers and joel silver.
